I was just looking to find out how most people store their Lipos, I don't mean in terms of voltage, but actually physically storing them? Do people keep them in a lipo pouch through out the week, or do people just keep them in the boxes, as I have for a long time now.

It might seem a silly question, but I have been reading instructions, info on lipo's and its recommended that they are kept in a lipo pouch in case anything was to happen i.e. them going pop or exploding. Just got a little nervous now I have starting thinking about it!

Your thoughts are appreciated

Cheers

I think the whole Lipo explosion thing is a bit over-hyped.
In the early days of the batteries (where much of the Internet info comes from) they were more volatile, but now, they are much safer (though still to be charged and used with a sensible head!)

I keep my Lipos in the cardboard boxes they came in, sitting on the shelf in my workshop.

Well, in the unlikely event of a LiPo fire it'll most probably happen during charging, decharging or impact.

BUT - you can newer know for sure! And sometimes they expand during storage (if fully charged). And risking burning down your house or people getting killed is no option.

>> ALWAYS store in a lipo sack!

It's cheap as chips too!

i think thats why most charges have a function called storage,
resellers and manufactures are unlikey to keep there stock in lipo sacks.

i store charge mine and keep em in the box that they came in. i try not to keep them fully charged for longer than 12 hours.

so far so good...

You can get a lipo sack for USD 4 incl. shipping from ebay... why on earth take the risk by not using one? :D

Yes I have a Lipo sack on route to me already, I just wanted to get a general idea of what other people do :)

I never keep them fully charged, just how they come off after a race.

I keep 1 in the car and 3 in their boxes lol

I'm probably a little too reckless when it comes to lipo. I might buy another 3 lipo sacks soon.

Most batteries come with instructions that say roughly the same thing...

Store in a dry place between 5 and 30 deg C. Do not allow to sit below 0 deg C (outside in the shed in the winter!) and never use above 40 deg C.

Store between 3.2v and 3.8v per cell, not fully charged. If stored for more than 6 weeks, cycle once and put back into storage. Like Wassy I race them and then store them, and it works fine.

Store in a lipo sack or tin, not in the car or loose in a tool box.

As mentioned above, the issues with faults developing during storage seem to have reduced. Most of the current problems are with cheap packs bought from overseas. Apart from some rogue SMCs a while back, I've not heard of any fellow racers having a problem with the good brands - Orion, SMC, LRP, Nosram, Reedy, etc. - so it seems worth investing in good packs, and avoiding anything you get from the Far East directly or through flEbay. HTH :)

I have got hard case lipos and soft uncased lipos and I store then in my transmitter case in nice foam cutouts for each battery. I either charge on day or pre charge the night before racing. I always charge in lipo bag. Once used I will then put back on charger and use lipo storage mode which is set to 3.8v per cell.

I also inspect lipos for condition and any that lot doggie are better disposed off and replaced.

I have had lipos that are 3 years old and still punchy and charge properly through this method.
