Using liquid mask to protect your paint job?

anybody thought of doing this before? I imagine the liquid mask would be quite effective at stopping scratches.

in dry conditions i don't see why not but being a waterbased product....well you can see where i'm going with this..

Saw someone use masking tape on the outside, saying it did just that -
- and my response was "it wouldn't get scratched so easily if you'd stop crashing so often." :p

If you're talking about the inside, a few strategically placed pieces of electrical take do just fine.

I've masked back over thinner based with it, no problems there. The only issue I can see is drying process, I don't know if it would affect the paint if it shrunk at all. I reckon it will be okay but it needs to be tested on something before anyone puts it on one of their nice paint jobs and finds there's a problem.

You will have to put some sort of tape on there to stop it scratching, I put a thin coat of clear lacquer to give some protection, but on my own shells, where I know it will rub, I make up some anti-wear protection, using thin double sided carpet tape and tin foil....

I used to use shoo goo or a similar product but can't remember the name,( Edit* Its fender mender just remembered lol) it leaves like a rubbery seal and doesn't wear that easily, problem is when adding anything like this the bodyshell weighs alot more.

It does protect it really well, but nowadays I just give it a blast of clear laquer and other than the the usual rubs you get above the arches after perlonged rubbing it works perfectly fine.

I use foil tape from b&q its normaly in the roof/pipe inssulation area ..

i find it works realy well .;)

I tend to cut up the sticker sheets you get with the shell and stick them on the inside where I know it's likely to rub.
