Ok, hope this is the right place to post this. I am just starting in the field of club racing, my real passion is short course truck racing but there's not a lot going on in the uk so I'm looking for a buggy so that I can have a play at meetings around the south east. My job means that I will be an occasional attended rather than a regular so I'm never going to be winning championships, just want to have some fun. The only real choice I've made is ELECTRIC only, just don't want a gas car as have very young kids and also most local tracks run electric.

I've had a bit of advice, and I think 1:10 2wd would be a good start point and I've got a budget of only around £200 (+/- a little, mods can be added on the side lol) to get going (wife still doesn't know my 4x4 SCT has eaten over £1000!)

Ideally I think I'd go for a losi 22, but too expensive. So also been looking at mad monkey and B4.1 but am open to suggestions

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as I am a real newbie in this area would also consider different scales and drives but 1:10 2wd seems to be the best budget entry point

ansmann x2c is cheap and great kit setup but need upgraded idler gears. £135
speed passion 6.5t motor is £71
Savox servo £50
speed passion lpf £100
2 sets of lipo saddles £140
That what they are worth new but can get cheaper second hand

Sorry, forgot to say, I've got a stash of stick 2s lipos for the SCT, kinda like a car which could use them ;0) not an absolute necessity but would help - thanks for your quick reply, had been looking at that car too, just came out a little over budget because of batteries :0(

So as to not show any brand preference or outright brand-whoring - and since you're on a bit of a budget, it would be my advice (as I suggested in your other thread) for you to do some regular spying on the "For Sale" section of the forum here or even place an ad in the "Wanted" section - http://www.oople.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2 - being as I'm always seeing deals being posted (there's even currently a 22 going for £110), and you don't know what you could come across if you don't at least try. :D

Ive never ran a Schumacher so am not best placed to comment on their pros and cons but I tend to browse the For Sale section, and also have a nose on Ebay from time to time and these tend to be at the lower end of the used car market in terms of price so a Cougar may be a good starting point.

I know Schumacher cars are not everyones cup of tea but from seeing their team drivers in action then its fair to say that the cars are very competitive. The rest is up to you...

The Cougar can also be run with either sticks or saddle, depending on how you configure the layout....

I'll keep my eyes peeled , now let's see, how can I sell this to the wife...........I'll buy the car, she can buy the running gear for Xmas......"it's cheaper than buying new"......Hmmm, might work ;0)

Lol she was quiet happy to buy me the MM but wasn't so happy when she realised it was without electrics and soon worked out that things weren't quiet as budget as they appeared lol :wub

I made a "deal" with the misses years ago, after years of receiving ties and shirts I didn't want for Xmas - after she assumed it her duty to inform me what I wanted - that one year I purchased a vacuum cleaner and put it under the tree with a big red bow on it. Xmas morning, as the family trooped down the stairs and the look on her face started turning to one of gloom (and thoughts of me sleeping in the dog house), I said, "sweetheart, I'm guessing you're going to enjoy that as much as I'm going to enjoy what's in that box over there with my name on it - so let's call a truce, and in future years ask each other what we really want."
"Done" she said.
Since then our wish lists are posted on the fridge by September of each year, birthdays two months in advance. Works like a charm. ;)

Lol, thats what we do already - she's quiet happy to buy what I want but has this real hang up over things like paying the mortgage, holidays, clothes for the kids lol

She is great, doesn't mind me working on RC in the house, let's me to to whatever meets I like (as long as I take the kids) and only moans a little bit about the mud that falls off the cars in the living room :wub

Of course the kids and the mortgage come first - but since my wife's ex chose boozing as a hobby, I really get no complaints about the cost of toy car racing being as at least I have something to show at the end of the day for what was spent. ;)

get your lipo's from HK that'll save you quite alot... takes about 3 weeks...
or if you get the from the de warehouse ive read that takes 4 days but costs a lil more.

get the Sportsman Version 3.0 7.5 - mbmodels (seem to be out of stock now) selling these for £35 ive got a 7.5 seems pretty decent for the v3 plugs on as well!

you can get the LPF for about £85 also...

I've previously found HK Lipos to be either great or rubbish, I'm happy with my current supplier, just don't see much point in not using the batts I've already got ;0) thanks for advice though

Looks like I'll go 22 second hand, need to discuss with wife first though :0)

Will do mate, thanks. Might be a few days though - late shifts mean i wont see the wife for a week :0( so not much chance to discuss it with her (time for flowers me thinks lol)

I must say you guys have been a great help already, look forward to continuing in the community.

I like the swappability of the 22 set up, I know the buggy is a little more work than others, but that, for me, is part of the fun and i really think, from reading, that the inboard motor set up option will help with local kent tracks. It will be after christmas before its up and running, at the earliest, but can't wait.

Reckon, after all in will be cheaper than MM, but might get a MM for kids if i get into club stuff :0)

I will know if I will sell tomorrow because I will find out if im sponsored so no rush

Cheers mate ;0)

Grrrrrrr! This forum is going to cost me a fortune!!!!! Some evil person has placed a MMP and 3800 brushless on there for a great price - just what I was looking for for my SCT!!!, decisions decisions

Brabusben
02-11-2011, 01:46 AM
Ok made a choice, for the winter the MMP and 3800 won't be much use for the SCT (I bash the truck pretty much daily) as it is not waterproof (I know this can be done, but can wait), the stock system is not bad for a bit of fun, next season the upgrades will come

So.....I had a chat wiv da misses and she says she'll buy me a 1:10 buggy for Xmas, all I have to do is get running gear - will need you guys advice on this (motor, esc, servo) but for the RC I'm going for basic 2.4 Ansmann - good reviews and might as well be free at the price ;0)

After a lot of thought I really want a 1:10 2WD, for my starter car as lots of local(ish) club run these, the popular models seem to be mad monkey, Losi 22, and Associated B4.1 - I'm probably going for a second hand Losi 22 for three main reasons 1) seen some good second hand ones at good prices, 2) they can be fore or aft motored so I can see what's best for me, 3) Spares are quiet readily available 4) over the MM, they already have decent shocks (quiet expensive)

Thanks to you guys for your opinions, they have helped me a lot - mainly to decide that all three cars are good and I've probably chosen one of them but may be swayed toward the Any of them at the last minute lol
