Even though i searched for a decent Avante, i couldnt justify the £350, so decided to buy a few projects.... Some good advice and if your after vintage and mint. Its far cheaper to buy one that do an old one up:cry:.
A few of the projects can be seen hear.

Tamiya fox, frog and fire dragon all wanted new shells. To those that dont know the shells alone for them came to over £100... Then they re released the frog grrr lol

Managed to find an old Astute on the lovely bay. Very rare these days and im still on the look out for one now. In the end I bought a new shell and decal set from Hong kong for £40 and made it look A1, Wheels and tyres were quite hard to get hold of though as well.
Nice car and from memory they were one of the first real serious 2wd cars to come from Tamiya.

The fox.
Very old and highly collectable. This one needed a new shell. After a worldwide search and a few dodgy deals i managed to find a bodyset for the car. Hmm just dont ask how much it cost me lol.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/col.evan.mil/PC070213.jpg
Sold this car and decided to split the 2 down, rolling chassis and bodyset still not painted etc/ Bodyset sold for more than the car lol.

The Big Wig...
Hated this car when i was younger, but had to buy one as the engineering in this vintage was unbelievable.
Cvd with rubber gaitors to protect from dust, full bearings, super smooth 4wd mech, interesting sterring arrangement like a real car, interesting shell which even has details like exhausts and air scoops a plenty, hmmm i can just imagine a novak gtb under there getting plenty of airflow lol.
Funny thing is , it weighed more than a real car lol.

Tamiya frog..
This one was painted frog green and looked abso minging, I decided to have a go and strip the paint off an original shell and try those repro stickers with original sponsor logos . Eeek.
I bet i used about £30 worth of nitro fuel that i had from one of my racing revo's and about a million hours of time to get the result that you see here. 98 percent off lol. When i get the other 200 hours i'll finish this car lol.
GRRRRRR, Tamiya have now re release the car and all that time and effort wasted lol. Oh well lol.

This was bought as i had one of these and kept onto it. I did have this for sale a while back but got no interest and was practically giving it away for £30. Hmmm a very cheeky Northly lol:p was interested but even wanted free postage lol.
Have since been told it has the very important front shock mod using oversize chocks and new tower to cope wiht the shocks.

Porka 959 Rothmans special..
I never liked this car as it seemed to boring, but i didnt realise how rare they were esp with the Rothmans livery. Supposedly Rothmans had some kind of lawsuit and Tamiya were looked at badly for advertising smoking ( or so i was told lol) future cars were not Rothmans liveries... If that makes sense lol.
This car had real nice suspension, the shocks were completely seperate to the springs like a real car. The shell was super detailed but very hard to paint and tbh i dont think any model car this day and age has as much detail as this shell and from memory this is very early 80s material.

Won on ebay for virtually nothing with full radio gear. Ironically i gave the car away for nothing as someone needed a receiver and servo lol. I think young James terrorised the local cats and B4's at southport with a similar car lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/col.evan.mil/P8260160.jpg
This one had a lot of money spent on it. From memory front bumper was almost £30 and similar story for the wheelie bar... Proper zenoah power coupled with K&n air filter and tuned exhaust from a tourer, this fling flew..
However not all good, it regularly broke £90 servos and the shell virtually dissintegrated at the slghtest of rolls :o(£100). I remember being naughty and playing with it in the street at my mates and it rolling quite badly which resulted in it almost hitting my M3 lol.
Had a fair share of laughs with it as well, I took it up to my mates and decided to annoy the locals bu having Fg rocket up and down the road at 60 mph lol. A lack of concentration whilst showing off trying to do handbrake style turns near my feet , quickly resulted in me being knocked 10ft down the road lol.. Car went away after that lol.
Which brings me to my best cars.

The Holy Grail.
Tyres can cost upto £75 for 4 new, and this one was perfect. Only bad thing on this car was the quality of the paintjob as you could see paint brush marks in the mettallic silver. I did price up a new shell and it was a staggering £90.

Jeez Col, you have been busy! Post up some pics of the collection as it stands now. Any of these be racing at Southport? Perhaps someone could raise the possibility of a a vintage class for next years indoor races at the upcoming AGM? Sadly I wont be attending so I can't suggest it myself. I dont think Doughty did, Kristen Wiles did though and made 5th in the indoor UK champs with it, and boy did it shift. He also beat Craig Harris quite a few times inside and outside with it and was rapid. And that was when Harris was really good, yes he still is now, but he was better then and he beat All the Team Kysoho guys, well Jamie Booth was the only one not there.

Just a quick update for you guys.
Im now the proud owner of the following vintage cars...
Boomerang - A1 cond
Super sabre - A1 cond
Hotshot 2 - currently working on, managed to order new wheels and tyres along with an ultra rare original bodyset. ( just dont ask how much lol )
Stadium Blitzer - currently working on, new shell, new decals, new wheels, new tyres. Some plastics en route.
Top Force / Hybrid. Currently working on, new shell, new undertray and wing, new wheels and tyres and new front bumper.
Thunder dragon, Currently working on - getting there now, new chassis, new bumper, new tyres, full rebuild , new shell and decals.
Thundershot - New decals.
Tamiya Lunchbox - re release ( gold edition ) - Thanks Eddie:thumbsup:
New Build Grasshopper - currently building lol
Cougar 1, sadly just gathering dust
Cougar 2 race , bought on ebay for £35, not that nice sadly and needs loads lol. It did however come with an original speedmaster silverstar. Anyone remember this. My fond memories was buying one and trying to fit it in an optima mid, it was really tight. and after 8 mins of run on its maiden voyage i manged to melt all the blue heatshrink. My dad went mad lol.
Bush devil - new decals, new bumper , quick clean.
Falcon - managed to find a new rare decal set ( original ) , hmmm can i justify the £35 for a new shell to make mint.
Tamiya frog, partially stripped shell and in need of many parts to look good.
Will post pics, when iv got the time.

Interested in an Avante 2001?, with box, has been used, have got a terra scorcher and an origanol thundershot in running condition although i do have the box for the terra scorcher too. Have owned all 3 from new.
I once owned a Terrascorcher and raced at the Tamiya challenge championship in Cambridgeshire in the late 80's(those were the days). The terrascorcher was completely ballraced and came with front UJ's and of course the front upright suspension as standard.
Talking about Speedmaster Speedcontrollers, I still use mine (the new generation). I am currently running a X500 no limit speedcontroller in my Losi XXXCR and a slightly older Vega 3 in my Fireblade. Great speedcontrollers and completely bullet proof.

Cool, well I knew there were a few guys helping out with it and I thought Kristen was one of those few as well, and his car had a lot of things on it that were different from the poduction car, and I agree it was brilliant, I borrowed it for a few events before I decided to do 2wd as well and shocked quite a few people with it. He also showed how good he was with it Elsemere Port indoor carpet champs/finals by easily making the A, and fifth (I could be wrong, it may have been 7th) was a very very good result.
