Whats the difference in weight between a 6.5L and say a 10x2 ish wind motor in grammes?
Roughly?

Thanks :)

My Novak 6.5R is very heavy!!! Can't tell you the exact difference but it is noticable in the hand.

The reason behind the question is..

If the 6.5L, or brushless motors in general are heavier...does that mean that the 'adding lead to the back of the B4' mod is made redundant??

I think the L is actually lighter not just in name.

I think the LRP motors are a touch lighter than brushed.

I would certainly still add the weight to the usual place in the B4, weight in the motor is in a very different place to the weight that is added in front of the gearbox, they are both 'at the back' but the gearbox weight is actually in front of the rear wheels.

so basically, always add the weight, then use the big/big spur/pinion or small/small spur pinion to 'balance' the motor similar to someones setup you want to copy. heavy motor use small/small light motor use big/big

hope that makese sense ?

Hmm...interesting regarding spur/pinion idea.

Im running a 6.5L indoors only (at the moment anyways)...currently planing on 19/81 for the size of the track we run at.

So if I was to use a smaller spur and small pinion to get that ratio id move the motor closer to the center of the car anf therefore the weight closer too??

Cheers matey :)

when I first got my B4, most of the setups were from using a brushed motor on a fairly big pinion compared to what I run my brushless motors.

so I changed to a bigger spur and a bigger pinion to get my motor a similar distance from the gearbox as these setups used.

I think the brushed setups were 24/81 or something like that, I used 21/84 and it was similar distance out.

Chris, do you notice a difference when you move the motor forwards or backwards?

I don't change it, I just made sure it was similar to the brushed setups and stuck with that spur just changing the odd pinion as needed (which was not that often :D )
