Hi there,

I'm about to get in to Nitro and was wondering what one would do about having someone in the pit? The wife wont want to come so if one is lacking a friend/buddy what happens? Do people help each other out?

99% of the time you can find someone to pit for you if you do it in return.. or for a drink. Its nice to have a few mates to come race with you to help pit and so on. But everyone is very friendly, and you should not struggle to find someone who is willing to lend a hand mate.

Thats good to know. I think there may be a few guys that I know from 1/10th electric. I'm quite looking forward to starting. What is the first race at clanfield or Slough.

Clanfield is getting back going, track work starts over Christmas.

I've almost got everything to get racing now due to a very kind person ( cheers Mark ) giving me a sort of permanent lend of some of his old kit. So I'll be there as a newbie as well. Hopefully I can get up to Slough too. Nasir mentioned a race on the 8th Jan, keep in touch, even if I'm not running by then I'll be there to watch / photograph it so I'll pit for you, not that I really know what I'm doing, car comes up ramp, grab car, put fuel in, put car back down facing correct way.

It's when the engine cuts I get confused and panic a bit as it's all new to me.

You got your Kyosho then ?

Not got one yet but I've just sold a real car so I'm going to treat myself to a complete nitro set up from Tommy Chung.

He seems very knowledgeable and a very friendly helpful gent. I look forward to meeting you Ian and thank you for your kind offer. We can get it wrong together. I think that we also have to keep an eye on the stop watch for fuel.

That was my thinking behind it too fella

Tommy Chung is an absolute wealth of knowledge for all things Rally Cross.

I pitted at Clanfield last time I was there so almost know what I'm doing, lets hope I've got the Agama all together and running by then, can't see why not.

What are you missing for the complete set?

eyeayen
18-12-2011, 11:02 AM
Little things, glow starter, plug spanner, engine nut, it's all things that cost very little, I guess in total I need less than £50 worth, as you know even that sort of money isn't easy to come by for me at the moment, my girlfriend said I've been good all year so will have to wait and see what Santa brings :D

So I'm confident I'll be there. I could do with getting some practice in driving though, I've not driven anything RC for 3 years so trying to get an 8th nitro car around Slough when I've only done tenth electric on road before is a touch daunting :woot:

If I can get to Clanfield for a few races just to get my eye back in I reckon I'll be okay. Irrespective of that I want to come up to Slough so keep in touch and I'll pit for you !

Slough's an easy enough track to get round so you should be fine.
Yes it's a bit harder to get around as Quicky as the top boys but that's the same everywhere ;)

Tbh after tenth, 8th always feels a tiny bit slow!
It's still the best class though :)

You gotta be keen to race right through the winter
A lot of us just pack up & come back in Feb or march
Freezing my bollocks off all day & wearing my car out in the mud isn't my idea of fun. Plus half the week cleaning it & replacing bearings!
Not for me thanks :)

See you in the spring :)

Ah right, it's like the fair weather bikers who only get their motorbikes out in the dry then  - yeah that'll be me nowadays as I'm getting older and apparently wiser...

I can understand that, a set of bearings isn't cheap, still I've gotta learn to drive sometime so if it's a bit quieter now maybe it's a good time to practice !

Cheers Chef dude, I'm sure I'll be sorted by then though.

i got no problems with being called a fair weather racer :D

is supposed to be fun, the reasons above outweigh the fun as far as i'm concerned so i'm happy to return once the suns dried the track for me

one thing to consider though is how sticky Slough gets after a frost
the first run where its still hard is fast as you like but for some reason as soon as it starts to thaw out the mud becomes really, really sticky & i've seen cars get so heavy they literally just stop on the track!

even if you're so keen you just have to race i'm sure a post frost sludge fest will take the shine off for you :o

Slough is open ALL the time 24/7 365 days year.Anyone can come in and practise at the track during the week.

Those dates are for the Winter series. The summer dates will be announced after the new year :). But yes those are the only Winter series races.

Thanks.

its in a public park which means its open
the track is a fair trek from either of the carparks/entrances though so be prepared to lug your gear over to the track area!

Don't you have to be a member to be there though ? I don't mind joining but currently not a member, would be good to pop down and get some practice though just so I know what to expect although the sludgefest you've described isn't too appealing...

New rules say you MUST have a BRCA membership even if your Pitting for someone.

from RWMCC

Please note that BRCA membership is required for ALL drivers and mechanics participating at any of our race meetings. We will be asking for proof of membership over the next few meetings, but please be aware that we do have direct access to the BRCA database and can check on anyones membership status.

18-12-2011, 05:50 PM
I think you missed my point Nasir, I will renew my BRCA membership for next year so that won't be an issue. What i was worried about is you saying the track is open 24/7/365. Showtime posted its in a public park which means its open my point was don't you need to be a member of the remote world club to use their track at other times, not just race days ?

jamiekerr14
18-12-2011, 05:55 PM
No...

Its on Public land-They don't advertise it as they don't want people to run on it... But yes anyone can use it they don't have much control over it in that sense. But as Adam says, the fact you cannot park anywhere near it is what puts 90% of people off from going there-Specially in the winter months.

How often do most nitro racers run?

showtime
18-12-2011, 09:09 PM
think of us as solar powered

we don't run until there's been around 2 weeks of solid sunshine :D

jamiekerr14
18-12-2011, 09:43 PM
lol

How long is a piece of string!
It varies some race once a month.. some race most if not every weekend... Alot in the winter run 1/10th or run 1/10th if the weather has or is iffy.. it depends tbh..

I thought I would only be racing every other weekend, but have been out every week since I got my car - it is addictive. If anyone fancies popping over to Slough, give me a shout. Always better if there is someone else there. I've only done 6 or so races, but love it - even in the snow at Herts last week. If there was a race on Sunday, I would be there :D Might not be there the following week, as the wife would have killed me though. I am looking forward to the warmer, less muddy weather though!

Welcome to Nitro racing Chef!

I am at Slough most race days (i dont always race because i am too lazy to clean the car when the track is muddy) so can pit for you if needed and if we dont end up in the same heat/finals but there are plenty of folk up there that will give you a hand.

Sounds like you're going to be having a good Christmas Mr Chef sir !

When I was younger if the parents bought me an RC car they wouldn't see me for a few days as I was in my bedroom building and painting and stickering it... come to think of it maybe that's why they bought them for me. Probably to shut me up and keep me out of their way after the previous 3 months manic child leading up to Christmas syndrome

Have fun with it Chef, next year is gonna be cool.

Berky your always building your car at a race meeting so miss most of the quallies that's why you end up in lower finals?
How are you anyway Paul long time no see since you moved
Kristian the Hudy is a loverly bit of kit but as Tommy said to me one day with a buggy the slop that you get it is a tad overkill better off with a decent set of digital verniers, a brand new kit will feel tight until after it's first race meeting!
