Hi Garry
I'm pleased to hear you like it (the box anyway). We came up with that idea so that when you have built your X11 you have a nice strong box to put your racing bits in with lots of compartments. I'm glad you like the manual too! Colour photo's to make it easy for X11 drivers worlwide. Have Fun!

Very nice, ill stick a photo up of the aero box, its white with aero written on it:(
One thing i noticed garry was, they are using AERO wishbones, its in bold on the front of the manual:thumbsup::lol:

I'm sure you were joking, but just for those who may take it seriously. They are 'aero' as in 'aerodynamic' in styling. The X11 is 110% unique and original. (or we could have used 'kit-kat':D)
Thanks for clearing that up, i guessed when i got down to the aero body styling bit, it looks nothing like an aero does it:o

Garry whats the hole in the rear shock tower on the right hand side for????
Maybe the shock tower is 100% symmetric, and can be turned around 180.
If it break on the side holding the shock, you can always turn it around.
Without replacing the shocktower....
Just my thought, when I saw it.
Edit! Second look, the "wall2 look to thin. So I take back my comment above.

It does look really nice, but to be honest i wouldn`t know what adjustment did what to begin with, its not like a conventional car:confused:

How would you remove the shock nut of the inside shock if that hole wasnt there  Penny dropped? :D
That is exactly correct !
Just makes life alot easier when removing shocks, The set up for the camber and caster have all recomended starting points, so im just going to try them first i think Lee. The main reason why people say things about this car is because its not a repeated design like everything else. Its more of a "Concept Car", people may be affraid of trying somthing new like this because its soo differnt to anything else out there which is understandable and very fair.
In the back of the colour manual there is set ups offerd for differnt types of tracks, gearing and such. In there it offers some good help :)

on the adjustment thought,
is it possible to move the top link hight on the inside
i cant see it myself,?
or adjust the king pin hight on the front / rear wheels
i can only see camber and ride high adjustment
surely that not the limit of adjustment on this new car
also how do you adjust the anti squat ?

It's exactly like a conventional car, the only thing thats different is the shocks are connected to the wishbones via rockers. All the usual camberink/caster/antisquat ect adjustments still apply ;)

Assuming that they still have a choice of lower hinge pin holes in the rear hubs you can adjust the roll centre that way.
Roll centre on the front can be adjusted by spacing the outer upper ball joint up or down.
The only thing that needs some thought with applying set-up changes to a Pred is the lever arm effect of the bell cranks / rear shock mounting blocks. Once you get your head around it then it's the same as any other car .... more lever ratio = softer ... less = stiffer
To be fair for the many years I ran Preds all I felt the need to change to dial the car into various tracks was the rear roll centre, front oil & spring and rear spring. It was one of the most simple cars to set-up I have ever driven!
Good luck with it.

I used to play with those holes all the time, i can't remember which i used now, it's been 9 years since i last drove the pred, but they are a great tuning aid for high/low grip tracks.

Car looks cool - i think the most important thing on the Pred was always the ride height and roll bars.
Very rarely did we ever need to adjust the Camber, Anti-Squat, Toe-in or anything, just get the shocks right and make sure it's not sat too high, then depending on how "loose" you wanted the rear end to feel just change the thickness of the roll bar - we would also run one on the front at times if it was a high bite track, but it was easy really as we rarely changed anything else!

On the rear it's exactly the same as moving a shock in or out on a wishbone, only you move it up and down. It's ony the front thats really any different given the progressive nature of the rockers.
To be fair for the many years I ran Preds... It was one of the most simple cars to set-up I have ever driven!
Because there was almost nothing to change on the old Preds

Carl,
As Peter said the anti squat is ajusted from behind the spur gear there is a inner pivot block that can be risen or lowerd to give anti squat levels i beleve, Ive set mine kit standard until i need to change it.
Depending on the weather mate, As you know wet sticky muddy crap isnt the best for setting a new car up. I cant see me racing Batley after talking to Dad about it, Brand new car plus snow, rain or thick mud isnt a good idea LOL...
Looks like ill be racing York on saturday night instead get a good feel of the car indoor with these new parts on and have a little play with some set-ups there. :)

Ben,
My car got faster round by round through the night. Some parts broke i felt due to tyre choice early on which made the car very twichey indeed. plus in practice everyting needed to be punched into the handset giving a good balance on steering.
I got the call from Lewis and Yanina on anouther note but they asked how the night was going..
The car was good as i say it got faster and faster as the night went on which is definatly a good thing. I beleive that andys car broke becasue of a bad line onto the jump :D.. But earlier in the night it was flying !

On Tuesday, our club night, I had a quick drive of Peter Ellis' X11. It was new built, with no setup work done.
It felt very fast and aggressive. I wouldnt have felt comfortable driving for 5 minutes with it like that, but for a few laps, it was incredible.
It hasn't persuaded me to leave the Tamiya and get a Pred, but those who dismiss it so easily should drive it first.

Hi there
Well done for having a go:) The X11 is a fast car and can be aggressive too, but with the right set-up it can be very smooth. It does keep you on your toes and after a few races you will find that you just 'drive' it. Smoothly or aggressively. :)

The best way to drive a pred i found is smoothly. If you try to push it, it will get agressive. If you really concentrate on your lines and exit it will be extremelly quick around a lap.

Chris,
Thats ace. what was the track like you tried the car on ? was it indoor or outdoor ? :)
chrispattinson
14-03-2008, 12:12 PM
Indoor (sports hall) type track, with a couple of large jumps. On power steering seemed to throw the rear out too much. Probably, as Peter said, too much antisquat on rear.
The TRF501X has a lot of on power steering ( I run with overdrive at the front), but the rear seems to be more controlled with mine than the Pred. The throttle was coming in very strongly with the Pred, that woul'dnt have helped.
Must stress though that the pred was not setup.
