View Full Version : Looking for Race Dates - New Website

I'm setting up a new website which will hopefully list all the events around the UK so racers can find what is on on a given weekend around their region.

If you would like to be listed on this site, please reply to this thread or email me (venues@race-dates.com) with your club name / region / club address / meeting dates and any other information which you think is important for racers and I will place it on the site. Also if you run a club meeting on any day of the week please send over details about this.

Eventually I am hoping to have individual pages for each club which will have directions to the tracks etc.

Click here to view the site (http://www.race-dates.com)

Any feedback on the site, or anything you think would bring value will be greatly received.

Thanks to everyone who has been helping me with this project so far.

Thanks
Steve

It would be a great idea but surely oople caters for this allready?

Maybe to try something differant would be to run a calander that smart phone users can sync with reminding them of dates?

Maybe having multiple calanders for differant classes?

Just to avoid diluting what is allready available here?

I would also reconsider the name as you may get people with slightly differant expectations visiting

Great idea and will supply you info as soon as I can.

It would be a great idea but surely oople caters for this allready?

To a degree I agree with you as oOple tends to have lots of information about a particular big meeting or summer / winter series that is on. It doesnt always have details of what club meetings are run when and where though so a calendar showing everything that is on would be useful in my opinion.

I agree with you that Oople does have most dates on here, and I am not trying to go against what we have here on oople. What I am trying to create is something quick which lists everything that people can glance at to see where to race on a given weekend.

If you click on the dates either from the iPhone site or the full site you can download the dates into your calendar so they are visable on your personal phone or computer. Eventually I will create the option to select multiple races to download or download by region.

The plan is to push this accross all scales, but as it is only a few days old I wanted to gage opinions before putting a lot more work into it.

Thanks
Steve

Good idea I think, easy to just look at if you wanted too, is wrong though as telstar are undecided on running meeting on 28th.

Could you put Mansfield up on there please.....East Mids, club night every Wednesday evening.

Thanks, John

Steve, I agree with the other positive comments, looks good, clean and simple.

Once we re-start in the new year I will send you ther info for our DMS MCC indoors on thursday nights. Also, you show Taplow as South East, surely they fall into Mid South by their location dont they?

Nice and easy to follow and easier to read than going through all the club threads.
Once we have sorted the UK SHORTCOURSE series for next year we'll give you dates and locations.

Cheers

Awesome idea, especially for folks like me who only get to race once or twice a year, I can see what is on.

One point, you have December 2011, which is followed by January 2011 and February 2011 in the drop down, I'm guessing you meant 2012.

Great site, great idea, well done:lol:

Looking very good, web links from the 'entry' to club site would be good, get directions etc.

oops, just seen the calendar download link, be nice to have both !

I also think it looks like a lot of work to maintain - meetings need to be correct and removed if cancelled ect, expect to be told when a meeting is proposed but not be informed if changed or cancelled, it won't happen often, but will happen.

Hi all,

Thanks for your nice comments on the site. It’s good to know that it is going down well.

Thanks for picking up on a few of the errors. These have now been fixed, and I will be putting the iPhone site back live again tonight after I have fixed a few issues with it.

Over the Christmas period I will be adding features which might answer some of your questions which have been brought up.

"... web links from the 'entry' to club site would be good, get directions etc."

I will be adding a feature that when you hover over an event it will bring up the following options: Add to calendar, Share with friends on Facebook, Visit club website, Visit Oople thread for this club and if an event has been added on Facebook you will be able to click "I’m attending"

"meetings need to be correct and removed if cancelled ect, expect to be told when a meeting is proposed but not be informed if changed or cancelled, it won't happen often, but will happen."

This is one problem which has been bothering me and I will check oople and check club websites often and be on the lookout for events which have been changed or cancelled. Hopefully I will get told of any changes to the event and update accordingly. :)

I will also be adding an email subscription so drivers can sign up to receive information about events. I'm not sure how to do this yet and if it will be used, but maybe a monthly newsletter with events in your region?!

I'm hoping to update the site with results to events if it is possible, so once a date is complete some will have the option to view results.

If there is anything else anyone thinks would be beneficial please let me know and I will add it to my list of features!

Thanks
Steve

Great idea, and much needed, sometimes I have completely missed events, or only just seen them in time with the last few places left. Also a useful tool for beginners wanting to race in this "underground" hobby!

Mid-South club info here = http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

I have included Taplow on this map ;)

And large club database here = http://www.centralbooking.org/cbs/index.php?option=com_cbs&task=cbs2clubs&Itemid=151

covers most, you may find these easy to glean info from.

I've added new features for some of the dates so you can get the address of the venue, start time and the ability to view the oople thread and add to your outlook or phone calendar.

I am in the process of putting this onto every date as well as adding more months to the calendar but you can check it out on the national / mid west regionals in April.

Again if you want to be included please email me at venues@race-dates.com and I will get you added ASAP.

Thanks
Steve
