Sat in bed with a Lemsip feeling crap and trying to use the time to sort out some stuff that needs sorting. My Antex HP80 iron has finally died so I need a new one. That one was (I think) an 80w jobby that put out some stonking heat but wasn't very good at precision stuff as it had a massive flat tip that made getting at ESC tabs a pain. What would be a good wattage in a smaller iron to do RC stuff and preferably one with precision tips too? Any recommendations (but sadly can't stretch the budget to an LRP Solder Station or similar)

Antex made very nice and good value soildering irons.
25-50 watt.
They also have a wide range of easy slide on/off changeable tips.

I havce a Weller 40 and a Weller 80 watt, both excellent irons. Was taught soldering 20 years ago on Weller kit and have always rated it.

I use a Weller 80watt (with large chisel tip) for speedo/motors and a Weller 30watt for everything else.

I picked up the gas Solderpro 70 kit the other day for a bargain price of £30. Normally around £60 but Maplin have them on offer at the moment. Its £10 cheaper than the Sodlerpro 50 kit which has less in it so I am highly impressed with it all.
