NBC race report

30th December 2011

This is all from memory so forgive me missing the details...

Was my first time at the Norfolk buggy club so had no idea what to expect. You can imagine what went through my head when I saw a fully fitted camper van even with racing numbers on it's side! Yup I thought.. 'I gotta get me one of those' That aside there were a number of cars all parked up and several people setting up on the pit tables.

After introduction and after finding out the cool camper belonged to a chap who used to race 1:1 scale cars everyone started having a good chat about cars and set up. For what was a pretty improvised meeting that was basically set up on this forum I thought it was an excellent turn out.

There were several racers there Including Dave, Dan and Jonathan from the club, I of course was a new face along with ShaunieT (forum name) and his two sons Jack and Joe and a few others who I am shamed to say I've forgotten the names of, but I'll get to know everyone eventually.

After a while of general chat and banter some fun started...

Race One

First on the track was myself, Jack and Joe all of us driving Madrats of one description or another. Mine I'll admit had the right tyres for the track on which the race organiser decided to give me a lap penalty for :) (Thanks Dave) but apart from that and some minor changes all three cars were about the same spec. The track conditions were quite damp and the main straight had a pretty decent water hazard so it was going to be interesting.

Dave shouted go and we all charged off on a 9 lap race... VRRRROOOOOMMM... well it was vroom for about 30 seconds till we all realised that one of the cars diff was slipping. We all paused for a few mins while this was sorted and then the race was ON!

After a couple of laps getting used to the track all 3 drivers were doing pretty good for the first time out, granted for Jack and Joe it was more like a drifting race then anything else due to tyres but this allowed me in best sporting fashion Lap them...it's racing after all :)

It was an excellent first race with drama at every turn, Joe and Jack drove very well considering the tyres but I took the win of the first race...yay me...

Returning to the pit tables for some more chat and laughter the next round of drivers got ready...

Race Two

Race two was a mixed car race, a couple of TLR 22's and a couple of X2C (The Mad Monkey Mid motor). After a brief pause to allow Dave to get his X2C actually running the race was off...well..Dave still actually needed a kick start and I do mean we had to kick his car for it to get going! But after the that Dave quickly powered through the traffic to gain the lead and was pretty faultless from that point on. His car did cut out and had to get the boot again but even with that he took the win.

During the break between race two and three we were all treated to cups of tea courtesy of Jack and Joe's mum (bless you) which was awesome...it was a fair day weather wise but it was cold so the tea went down well.

More tech talk went on with Jonathan and Dan having issues with electronics but race three was almost upon us.

Race Three

Once again Myself, Joe and Jack took to the rostrum, this time though the brothers had got them selves some spikes on the cars and were looking for blood...and blood they almost got. It was a very very close race with the lead swapping between myself and Jack several times I still got the win but it was only by a matter of meters...

Race Four

Race four started a bit better for Dave as we now no longer needed to kick his car into life and to put it bluntly he dominated all 9 laps. There were a couple of great laps and at times he was challenged but overall it seemed to me quite an easy win. Dan drove an excellent few laps during this race and I believe challenged a couple of times for the lead. Dave's Son I think had just stolen his Losi 22...cause that's how he was driving it :D

LUNCH!

Race five....

Lets not talk about race five...I've wiped it from my memory...

Oh okay... race five was actually one of the best of the day, once again myself Jack and Joe were going to be clashing and this time Jack drove an excellent race and no matter what I tried he got a superb win and well deserved. By this time everyone was starting to get to grips with the track and the cars a lot more and we had some fantastic racing, myself and Jack dueled for a couple of laps nether of us wanting to give up the lead. We both made errors almost at the same time which made for some exciting racing from my perspective and I loved every second of it.

Race Six

I'm a little vague on this race apart from remembering I almost got hit by a flying Losi 22 (Dave's Son)...that's racing for ya though :) oh..btw, I was marshaling when almost hit :)... I believe Dave won again.

Race Seven.

Last race of the day... All the J's on the rostrum once more...

Was a very clean start and everyone got stuck into the first few laps. I think I was at this point in the lead but jack was once again hot on my wheels and Joe was not for behind. We had some very close racing for a a number of laps till disaster hit...well disaster for me...My steering broke, later I'd find out that I'd stripped my servo horn but I was out of the race. This however led to some very exciting and nail biting racing between the brothers. With Joe improving all the time and Jack having technical issues and cutting out from time to time we simply had no idea who was going to win....And almost as if it were filmed in slow motion and the last bend, after the table top feet before the finish line Jack's Rat cut out and we could see Joe leap up and over the table top, Jack with what could only be called the power of his will got his car started again but we all thought it was going to be Joe that would cross the line....but NO... Joe crashed out on the last bend and Jack scored the win!!

It was an excellent day out and I'm really looking forward to the next race day on the 15th of January.

I do hope everyone enjoys reading this little report, hope it's not to long... and once again I'm sorry if I got any names or details wrong...

I'm ready for the next race!!

Jason.

Thanks Dan.. glad you liked it even with the monkey flash backs...

Maybe in the future we can tie together you're pics and my text and do some cool race reports. That would be fun.

I'd love to get some vids done too...I (badly) filmed some races up at Stonehaven a few years ago...would love to expand on that this year at NBC :D. I need a new camera :)
