Been out with the boys today's with their Xmas Traxxas Monster Jams bashing about in the hilly woods, hill climbs and jumps etc etc, awesome fun. Made my mind wander...
What's this crawling malarky all about, any crawlers on oOple?
I'm pretty lucky to have pine forest of the Surrey Hills on my doorstep so the terrain is awesome!

More than likely. Me for a start, got 3 of them. much more fun being able to control something slowly rather than just jamming throttle wide open all the time. Makes for better race driving too as you get better finger/thumb control.

scale or comp crawling? comp is very expensive to setup initially but running costs are then next to nothing. If you want to compete then you need an moa rig. Brushed is king in crawling, so is using bushings instead of bearings:woot: (took me a while to accept these facts)
Fun but not nearly enough people attending comps in uk

Got three crawlers myself, but not been out running them for a while. Had them a few years, they were all built in the days before you could buy them off the shelf so I have a Clod based 2.2 (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=77490&sid=297), a Berg based 2.2 (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=85784&sid=297) and a Clod based Super (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=77493&sid=297) which has an 18 inch wheelbase with 7 inch diameter tyres.
Crawling is all about precision and having to work out your own way of traversing obstacles. For fun it's just going out there and trying to work out how to make your own route. If you try competition crawling you will learn what proper precision driving is, as you will have to pass through gates that can be only 16 inches apart.

The growing class in crawling are scalers, with the comp crawlers getting away from something scale to something designed purely to crawl.

Hi guys.
I've just got myself a Maverick Scout off here.
Made a few changes, mainly adding weight to the wheels, lowering the body, removing the bumpers and trimming the bumper mounts. I've also limited the shock travel a little and set the links to get it sitting a little lower.
I have some smaller batteries coming which I will either mount on the front axle or lower in the chassis near the motor.
My issues at the moment are torque twist. When I'm traversing a hill to the left it leans badly to the left and can roll. I have a couple of spacers putting extra pressure on the spring on that side but what I can I do? Should I move the shocks? Reposition some links? I can't find any specific diagrams or pictures to show a modification I can carry out.
Could someone link to a thread or article I can look at a copy to sort it out? Its not really helping its performance. Replacing the hardcase 2s 5300mah battery will help loads with other issues but I want to sort the torque twist.
Thanks
Phil
