Diff oil..lube..?

I've had a quick search and can find lots of info on building Diffs but no stand out info on what Oil or lube/grease people are using inside the diffs.

I'm planing on doing a diff rebuild in a few weeks and was wondering what people are using... Madrat, X2 etc etc...same diff :)

Some others may be as good but I've never had any problems with ae stuff so always stick with it.

I use AE, and Schumacher and xray... Etc.etc. I found they all work nicely although do prefer the greases that come in a syringe. Just find them quicker and easier to apply.

I'm more interested in the thickness, weight etc rather then the manufacturer :)..

There are so many thicknesses available in Diff oils and I have no idea where to start with it. Also there are different terms used even within the same brand sometimes... it's quite daunting.

Not sure about different weights of diff grease in ball diffs tbh, as others said, AE diff lube within the diff, black grease on the thrustrace. Normally only use oil as such (of which there are different weights ie, 2000w, 3000w, 4000w etc) inside gear diffs (eg, 1/8th RallyX) as they are sealed.

I used a few drops of 40-50w shock oil on the gear teeth before closing up the box on my x2c as i'd read it makes for a quiet operation :)

For ball diffs I use B-Fast lube they specialise in ball diffs, know thie stuff.
Gear diffs - LOSI! early feedback on the 4wd suggests 5K in front and 3K in back.

Anmann MadRat, X2 and so on don´t use diff oil. You just need to use a diff grease (I also use AE).

Diff oils with different wheights is used on sealed diffs.

Kaylon, are you talkinging about the sealed gear diffs for the X4? Most of the replies so far are discussing ball diffs...

Thanks for all the replies... I am talking about the ball diff's of the Madrat, X-pro etc etc.

I currently use a wee bit of the Ansmann diff grease but keep on reading about diff oils etc so was wanting some clarification about what to do in the future...

If I'm still on the right road using Ansmann Diff grease and not worrying about diff oils etc then I'm over the moon as it's one thing less I need to worry about :D

I did not know the difference between sealed diffs etc so at least I've learned that the Ansmann diff is not sealed :D.. I love this forum...
