Details for NERCR 2008 Outdoor regional Weekender

Saturday 24th May (4WD) and Sunday 25th May (2WD) (Bank holiday weekend at the end of May).

Camping available free of charge on Friday and Saturday nights, on South Shields Sea Front, in a locked park (NERCR will have the keys).

We have sole use of the Bents Park for the weekend.

Toilet facilities open 24hours within the park, for our use only.
Burger van will be attending all day Saturday and all day Sunday.
BBQs are allowed, we only ask that you do not damage the grass in anyway, and that all litter is removed from the site as usual.

Recreational park is 50 metres away, with pedalloes, kids mini train, Pub is 75 metres away, does great food. Fairground is 75 metres away, with bowling alley etc. The beach is 100 metres away. Restaurants are 150 metres away. And there's plenty room for that pre finals game of football.

This event has been arranged with South Tyneside council, and Northumbria Police, and is going to be a great event to push for a permanent track, if enough racers are interested.

Heres a MAP and DIRECTIONS to the venue. http://www.nercr.net/temp/CCCup_7_7_07.pdf

Here's a picture of the venue

Bents park is a good venue its where they held the catherine cookson classic last year, i think for the regional though there may be a bigger track which is always good!!

Lee,

with us having sole use of the park on the regional weekend, we can use as much space as we want for the track.

We were limited by what the council gave us last summer, with there being lots of other stuff going on in the park.

So yes, we can have a big track, and hopefully make it as varied as we can.

Yorkshire is rounders i think duncan. Wales is rugby cos they had hundreds of attempts at making a football but couldn't get it right...

I think they only play when the weather is fine. They can't hit a rounders ball with a brolly in their hands so they play snooker when its raining...

And i think the welsh play in the barn when its raining. Although its not called rugby... But they get pleanty of tries each im told... (BAhaaaa)

Us english lads race electric cars when is raining and get up to the eyes in sh**********te...

Hello Chris, do we need to book caravans in?

If we do, then book me in!

What time can we get onto the field?

Are there any facilities such as a water tap?

Cheers

Damian

chrispattinson
05-05-2008, 06:01 PM
Hi Damian,

What we have is a park type field, with a toilet block. Caravans will not need to be booked in, and any water will need to be carried from the toilet block.

The access is very good, virtually flat from the road into the park.

However, if you want to book into the proper caravan park, which is over the hedge from the park we have, search for 'Sand Haven Caravan Park', which will have proper caravan bays with water and electric hookup points. I would imagine if you use Sand Haven Caravan Site, then you will need to book it.

Keep your eyes peeled on this thread for official times, we will be getting a post out ASAP, and it looks like we might be able to offer Friday, Saturday and Sunday night in the park for people wanting to enjoy the whole of the bank holiday weekend by the sea. This is to be confirmed within the next few days.

Chris.

Cheers Chris, I will be taking advantage of your hospitality on the racing field!

Just wanted to make sure there was a water supply as the car gets a bit heavy with 10 gallon of water on board!

I will keep an eye out for the times.

There's loooooads of B&Bs in South Shields... and they're also mainly opposite a load of really good curry restaurants (about 5 or 10 (if drunk) minutes walk from the track)...

My parents have a spare room... I'm sure they'd be willing to rent it out... haha. 5 minutes walk from the track!

Im hoping for both my cars to feature in the report by the new reporters and not just the same 10 that make the A final!

Chris is on holiday at the mo, I'll try and put something more comprehensive up tomorrow night. However access to the site will be from 3pm, this is to allow the council time to erect the rostrum etc. Camping is also available on Sunday night, for those not wanting to rush off after Sundays racing!!

Just got back from Holiday, sorry for any missed questions.

Yes, dogs are allowed on site, no problems there.

As for fish and chip shops, there's the countrys No.1, as voted for by BBC good food magazine, only 5 minute walk from the track:

Nearest hospital is in South Shields, called South Tyneside District Hospital.

It is about a 5 minute drive from the track, and is next door to Temple Park (where the indoor regional was).

South Tyneside District Hospital,
Harton Lane,
South Shields,
Tyne and Wear
NE34 OPL.

Gates will be controlled by a responsible NERCR member, so they'll open when that person gets out of their tent.

Yes, dogs are allowed on site, no problems there.

Just to add to this, Yes dogs are fine on site, however they must remain on a lead at all times and all mess must be picked up immediately.

I think Chris has covered all the other points.

On Saturday, before the finals, the Mayor of South Tyneside will be attending to see what all the fuss is about with these model cars, as part of our effort to get a permanent track up here. It probably doesn't need to to be said, buut if we can keep the park nice and tidy, and all be on our best behaviour, especially when he is attending, it might go a long way towards helping our effort along. Thanks.

you need to buy the Shimz first http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

then you have a bargaining tool for Mum & Dad to agree to the X6 :D

Not sure if I've got sunburn or windburn :woot:

Agree with everything above. Quality weekend and ran without a hitch. Im sunburnt too! Thanks to Chris P,Simon and Bill
I was impressed by the ammount of X 6s doing well. A lad in my heat had 1 and was complaining of getting 12 312s in 1 or the rounds. He finished 8/9th in round for that.Well done!

I struggled with my 2wd today. Need more practice! Bring on York!

With no bush watering, least not in daylight, it was a fun weekend. Thanks to all who turned up and for leaving the place in pretty good nick. Bodes well for a return of last years Catherine Cookson Cup !

Thnaks too for all the fine comments on here, and a fair few at the park, it's Simon W & Chris P who desreve the credit, for both effort & organisation, do you think NERCR could make a few bob renting them out? ;)

And to check out all those "if only" comments, the unofficial results with full place & lap time details are here (http://www.nercr.net/results/2008reg/index.htm) - they still have to be ratified.

If anyone has pictures of my cars, they are blue and yellow. (4WD Tamiya TRF501X, car 1 Heat 7 in qualifying, car 10 in A final), or my 2WD (B4 Car 8 Heat 5, or Car 8 B final) it'd be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone that helped over the weekend, too many to mention, but it was all worth while. Thanks to those that turned up to race aswell.

Em - your dad was using his Academy in 4wd, but your B4 in 2wd.

They are right I used the academy V2, but it stopped speedo I think. I didn't use the Procat, to precious. Used bit from it though. The B4 went ok. Bought an X6 today so it will be sacrificed for bits. Two fun days, but I got bont. Not sure if it was the sun or the wind.
