How do I measure the fuel capaity? Or should I say how do the BRCA measure it?
I need to make sure I'm legal for the Neo. :o

They fill your tank to the brim then disconect pipe from engine and place in a test tube like thing(proper job!!!) then they pop the pressure pipe off the pipe and plug it into an air pump thus pushing all the fuel out of the tank and the pipe from the tank to engine If it's over 125cc (think:confused:) you fail! In 8 years of rallyX (Inc DXR and neo last year) I never failed, you do actualy need to use a fair bit of pipe to fail this (Or have a non standard tank!

Thanks Dave,
My Losi 8ight came 2nd hand, and does not have the block in the tank. Do you know if it's likely to be still legal?

Prob not, My last car was an 8ight and it was just under with std tank, did you get yours from the US? It may be worth having a new tank just incase.

We will be doing random scrutineering but it will mainly be on a "on complaint" basis. However as it's 10 minutes this year rather then 5 for quali it's probably better safe then sorry.
How far off do you think you will be? If you keep your fuel tube short you should not have any problems. Do you not have any way of testing your current capacity?

are things more strict this year?

first thing everyone should do is complain about G's tank size, then we will know for sure if its legal or not :P

Nope not at all. Will be no different to last 2 times have been same. It's just with 10 minute finals some people might complain about tank size of other racers. Although will only be likely in the very top heats.

you only gain around 5-10 cc without that in place so its not a great deal, you should be getting around 8+ mins on the tank like that,i get 8:30+ on a 120cc tank

Sure its ten min qualify at the neo with 1 compulsery pit stop ?????????
dave g
13-03-2008, 03:51 PM
thats what i thought steve..because otherwise you would have to be doing 11 mins on a tank with the start lap inc

I did the 15min Truggy C Final @ J28 last year on one tank :o with my Nova Rossi 21. in My Losi! It died as it came up the pit ramp after I finished but hey ???
Yes I know there is 25cc more :woot: before you all start but same engine in my buggy gave me 12 mins !:o

pit stops aren't compulsory!
tbh you'd save more time not crashing over the jumps than you would by losing the fuel stop :eh?:
sure it would be of some benefit to lose the stop but for most of us it won't really be an issue :)
What about the new spec 'EFRA' pipes? Will my Jammin be OK?
showtime
13-03-2008, 06:07 PM
the "new" spec pipes aren't freely available yet as such and a lot of the foreign drivers run to different rules etc so there is no hard ruling on pipes
noise isn't really an issue at the college as the nearest neighbours are a long way away :)
to quote LewisDXR when asked about pipes for the last meeting "as long as it doesn't sound like an ASBO'd up Subaru Impreza you should be OK"
any of the pipes from the 2007 list will be fine
as a note the BRCA are allowing 2007 spec pipes at Nationals this year anyway

Hey guys....
I've measured the capacity of Northy's tank today, without the little plastic thing....
The tank capacity was 116cc's, now I think that if he keeps the fuel lines short then there'll be no problem:thumbsup:

You need to measure it like said earlier in the thread Jim, give you summat to do tomorrow! :woot::woot:
G
The internal diameter of the pipe is only 3mm or so?
surely you can work out how much pipe it will take to reach the limit.
if you cant let me know how much pipe you have, the diameter and the legal CC limit
You need to measure it like said earlier in the thread Jim.
G
Yeah, pay more attention next time

Okay this is late night maths and I don't have a calculator....
The wide fuel tubing has 2.5mm diameter = 0.25 cm
116 cc current, so with 125 limit you have 9 cc of fuel capacity left to spare.
CSA = pi x r^2 - 3.142 x 0.125^2 = 0.05 approx cm^2
9 / 0.05 = 180 cm of fuel tube
This can't be right..... can it? Anyone with a calculator or a brain seeing my mistake, as without a block in the tank as well.... seems wrong. Esp considering people were saying one with a block was close to the limit?

Be careful,if you're running a Kyo Inferno US Sports,as it's tank is a 150cc one fitted as standard.You'll need to change it for an MP777 one,as it's 125cc.

Your calc is correct - here is the easy way to do it http://www.handymath.com/cgi-bin/circlevali25.cgi?submit=Entry
Change the values to cm and ccm - then input the figures. ( Height of liquid will be the diameter assuming the tube is full)
