Drool... How good does that look. I've always wanted to try a trigger throttle stick steering, looks like an impressive bit of kit.

It does look really well thought out and it must be the first stick steer/trigger throttle/pistol grip transmitter but is it going revolutionize the hobby? I doubt it

And I bet it will cost £400:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

looks interesting, however the stick seems to be for steering, which is the easy bit with a wheel. Its the stupid trigger throttle / brake which I cant get my head around.

:thumbdown:thats f++king disgusting what a waste of time, most people that use stick do so because they cant use the trigger as throttle and brakes, imagine the problems we will have with the module connections,uni3 has one set of connections and 90% of people i talk to have had probs with that sorry KO epic fail,

Looking at the base unit and the attachements I would say that they will also have a stick throttle unit that clips into the other side of the unit.... this would make sense as there would be a connection there for left hand 'wheel' steering....

Heard it here first

I've been wanting something like this for some 20 years

I've tried racing with both stick and wheel

I prefer the stick for the steering and the trigger for the throttle/brake
especially when racing 8th Nitro
throttle response on the trigger is much better, easier to jump and throttle up to balance the car in the air

But I hate the steerwheel, I just seem to oversteer and over compensate

I've been racing now 30 years and use stick as this is the best for me
but would deffo give this a go

Spot on KO
Now can Futaba release one please, I can't stand KO

with only KO and Sanwa having high end stick radios I guess there will be one from KO. They should have a solid buyership.

It seems I am the only one who likes the new radio. I guess this will be quite interesting for people who are more familiar with gamepads.

My thoughts exactly.

Another good point. Most decent racing games use the throttle accelerate and of course the stick steering. I think I'll be a fan once I have a go.

I wonder if its proving successful in tests? I doubt it, I bet KO just hope the fact it is unique will sell - but I predict it becoming a wardrobe filler very soon whatever is said by people pretending to like in the first 12 months (cos they're justifying the expense to themselves )

For me, the Esprit 2 type R is still the best. The next development I was hoping would be something like bloomfield is using now, not this abomination.

looks a good idea, I did 12 months with a wheel transmitter after years of using sticks, and the throtel control is so mutch better,I used it with rallyx, mostly on dirt and had some of my best ever results, with a trigger and a wheel you can be so mutch smoother, and flow with the track, your inputs are smother, not twitchy like they can be with stick.
BUT then I started back with 10th and on grass and astro, had to go back to sticks as just couldn't keep up with the car got all crossed up with the wheel!

This looks like you get the best of both, not sure if anyone set in there ways could settle with it without months of practice as I think it would feel very strange in your hands, but I think it may well be the way forward, and a great combination for future racers...stick and trigger if I could get the hang of it,I would:wub

Looks Holy cow costly tho:woot::mad:

I wish I knew someone great with electronics. I'd love to fit my 4PK internals into an Xbox 360 pad and use that for RC.

I think it looks cool in steer wheel layout but as a sticks user i wouldn't use it in the stick steer layout.

It would look even cooler in a proper stick layout though and i hope this isn't a gesture to say were not making sticks no more but we do have a adapter for the steerwheel!!!

In fairness, I think if I was a radio manufacture, and I wanted to do new radios, I'd do the wheel once first. I wouldn't discontinue my existing stick radio either, but that's another debate!!

They haven't said publically if they plan to do a new stick radio or not, so time will tell on that one. Someone did ask Masami on FB, and he said he hoped so, but that's not a 100% confirmation.

As a stick radio user, I find that when I panic using a wheel, I tend to pull the trigger rather than push it away. I can drive OK with a wheel but when I make a small error, it leads to an even bigger one! So for that reason, I prefer a conventional stick radio.

From what I understand, this will be the new KO stick radio...

It's a marmite thing but at the end of the day it might work for some people. To be honest I cant imagine KO announcing it's release if they didn't know or feel it's got a market!

Just think of some of the things that have probably been tested and never seen the public eye.....

I agree with those who say epic fail!:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:
Ask anyone who struggles with a wheel what they actually struggle with. 95% will tell you it is using a trigger to brake and this does nothing to fix that. Steering is better with a wheel, of that I have no doubt. Braking is the problem.

So as this doesnt address the problem at all then this wins my award for the most pointless and useless innovation.:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

How can an option part be a fail?
Nobody complained that much about the multi angle wheel extension unit, though not everyone is using it.
There was no innovation since the first wheel radio and there will be people who like it who are not already using wheel or stick radios for years.

@Ry: when you are looking for a controler feel this should come closest to it. The center position would be too bad in the controler, so you have to change quite a few parts and you will still have the problems with braking and accelerating at once. I guess you would end up with something comparable with this ko one or with a stick radio

18-01-2012, 04:07 PM
Ok, so let's get this straight, the option to 'autobot' from wheel to stick!? I'm not sure that will even work in the hands of drivers who favour sticks, I pressume the throttle will still be a trigger in stick format? 'Holy confusion to the hand-eye relationship Batman' ;)

Looks a bit crazy and tbh.....KO would be better releasing both a new stick transmitter AND a new wheel IMHO..we will have to see what racers think when this multi-option beast becomes available? I think looks are def secondary to performance but we would all be telling fibs if we drew comparisons between this handset and the finely tuned lines of Jessica Alba ;)

Let's see if Futaba or Sanwa reply with a fresh release?

same as I understood tooo Matt

Bad points to me are I'm a helip spectrum user with 8 rx, no to replace those witness new is not even a starter, how do you buy it? All as one package or pick your add ons, which means a ahop ideally would need to stock them all. As a steer wheel user I would not consider the stick, and I'm sure stick users don't want to relearn there throttle control. Sticks is now a minority,

My other vote would be stick with my existing ko or a new erus

eyeayen
18-01-2012, 11:19 PM
I agree with what Mark said above about how do you buy it because if it's like an SLR camera and you have to get all the pieces separately it's going to be a massive investment, unless they sell it in different configurations so it's all there but they've only had to make one mould for the main body ???

I also agree with a previous poster who essentially said it's going to be in the back of the wardrobe in a year and people are only going to say they like it to justify the expense to themselves. It just seems another gimmick that looks quite cool but in practice is a bit odd.

Something I don't think I've spotted anyone saying yet is HOW it's going to work with your brain. When I started many years ago only stick sets were available. So you had a stick for go / stop and a stick for left / right. Then the wheels came out, trigger and steering wheel, fiar enough, steering wheel albeit smaller is a natural thing, after all ride on toys from the age of 1 have steering wheels so we're all used to them

The sudden combination of trigger and stick is an odd one, and one I think that will play havoc with our brains. It's great that KO have been so innovative and I hope that I'm complete wrong and they do really well but I just think they're going to take too much getting used to and people will loose interest with them. We can't even get people to change to the wheel radio's completely yet, so many still use sticks so I don't know what chance this is going to have ???

Masami said price should be about 570€ (480 GBP) .... that a bit much for a transmitter that has basically the features (display and functions) the JR R-1 already had.
