Hi guy's (and gal's)
Ive Just purchased what i believe to be a bargin of a MadRat on Ebay (rolling chassis and brushless engine for £18).
It's my first 1/10th car (i race 1/16th atm) and im just wondering what are the week points which need upgrading asap.

The mail things I have broken are : C-hubs, front shock tower and front shock tower stay. I have broken 1 rear shock tower but that was after landing upside down over a jump.
Hope this helps.

the shocks! if it has plastic kit shocks then it will be no good for club racing until you change them. pick up some cheap second hand alloy shocks and then the car is transformed.
oh, and check it has been ballraced, if not, get a ball race set for around £7-8

Where about do i get the shocks and the ball set?
So far ive bought off ebay:
Spare towers (front/rear)
Chassis Plate (front/rear)
Spare Front and Rear wishbones
Spare CVD's
Spare top arms
Hasn't cost me a fortune yet and its all new and un-used

shocks, either ebay or in the for sale section here. post up a wanted ad on oople also.
something like second hand B4 shocks will be fine, but basically any alloy shocks, ideally with metric fittings for the M3 mounting screws.
ball race sets, ebay again or on here. some shops will also stock them.

save your money and use normal shocks. the big bores are great, but wasted on a madrat especially if it your first time racing.

Its not my first time racing. I race ar wycombe with a long wheelbase shark. I just fancied a go at 1/10th and this came along cheaply. (choose a madrat over others though because as you may of seen im building a perm indoor dirt track and rear motor i believe is better)
I will however use std shocks until i pop or bend one

sorry, the first time comment was at Bendeman13.
the kit shocks will pop every time you have contact or roll the car. that is the trouble with them, you won't be able to make a 5 minute run with the kit shocks, hence the need to replace them before you go racing.

As most have said.. get some new shocks and bearings...
For bearings I'd recommend HERE SO CLICK ME (http://www.rcbearings.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=15_59&product_id=590) ...
And for shocks then the MASTER SMASHER (http://www.jespares.com/electric-models?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=7782&category_id=1237) set fit if you swap out the lower fittings with the original shock set ... These have alloy caps and if treated well and not over tightened will do a great job, real good budget shocks in my opinion. They will deffo do till you fancy up grading.
I'd also look into getting the TURNBUCKLE (http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=38377) set..it's not that expensive and is a huge bonus for set up.
Apart from that grab maybe an extra set of rear hubs and a rear T plate and you are pretty good to go. It all adds up to be about £30 and you are set...for a total spend of £48 with upgrades and spares how can you go wrong :)
Oh..if brushless you might wanna grab a nylon idle gear from JE Spares for about £5 ... :D It might say out of stock..but they can get them in pretty quick. I got mine in 2 days even when it said out of stock...no Haribo though :(

Rear chassis...
+1. I picked up a similarly bargainlicious Mad Rat and found the back end liked to come apart.
There are loads of threads on what shocks to get (those X2c ones for £30 is a gift, take his arm off!) - best bet I found was the super-cheap big bored for the FTX Vantage, under £30 new for the full set. A set of Tamiya Aeration shocks off ebay works out around £46.
Apart from the bearings, the car is good to go. It's very easy to setup and drive, and jumps better than a B4!

Associated shocks. Should be plenty of cheap spares for them :)
