I don't know an awful lot about touring cars, but I think that you'll be better off buying a popular second hand car.

Go down to your local club and see what everyone else is running. That way you'll be able to get help with set-ups, and spares.

There is pretty much zero availability of these cars in the UK, as they were never imported here. Even on a worldwide level they were never that popular, and the two models you list are fairly outdated technology now.

As already suggested, you'd be better off with a decent second-hand kit. The following are all easy to get spares/setups/advice for and can be picked up fairly cheap (£150-£200ish) second hand:

Schumacher Mi4 (Cheapest)
Associated TC6
Hot Bodies TCX
XRay T3 2011 (Most expensive but very good quality)

These cars were imported here until about a year ago.
It is true however that parts are not easily found in the UK, although can be found via HK (Parts from most E4 cars are compatible).
They are not particularly dated technology, although TM have now released a new top of the range car, and will accept the latest lipo packs. (Up to about 25mm height.)
They are pretty good as an entry level car for something like evo or sportsman stock classes.
If you see one at a good price (£60 ish) you could do worse but be aware of the spares situation.

I have several of the E4JS and was annoyed when the importer, Comet RC, vanished.

Spares can be an issue, though Demon have some, and Wolf Hobbies and Hong Kong can provide.

The JS is quite robust. You will need an anti-roll bar for the front, it has a huge amount of steering. It's much easier to fit a lipo in than the RS, a 5300 pack fits comfortably.

I got each of mine for around £50, and they're a very good car for that, better than the overweight Tamiya TA05 I had before it. It won't compete with, say, a MI4LP or 416.

The best budget TC out there is the 3Racing Sakura S. Otherwise, look for a used chassis (especially with a shell, those things are costly on a TC), TC racers change chassis as often as their pants :P

I'd rather buy a secondhand Xray T3 or HB Cyclone WCE than a new Sakura. Much much better quality cars, even used.

The best place to look is the club you intend to race most at. Give them a visit and ask around.

Nothing on ebay? There's usually something, just get clever with your search terms, and learn how to use * (wildcards) and round brackets (OR) .

Try this in the search box, then play with filters. Remember that lots of people don't spend adequate time on their auctions making sure all the sub-categories are ticked, and so their auctions get filtered out when things like 'Scale' (1/10th) and 'Cars' (Battery powered) are checked.

(Xray,X-Ray, schumacher Mi*, Tamiya 41*, Sakura, TC5, TC6, Photon, E4*, serpent S411, TA06, TA05, touring) in category 'Radio-controlled'

Saw a few nice TOP Photons not attracting much bidding for low money (meaning under £100), best bet I saw.
