Removing paint?

I have a shell that came with a car I bought where the paint is flaking off quite badly, the shell is otherwise in good condition so is there a way I can clean the old paint off so that I can re-paint it?

It can be done with brake fluid but it is very messy.

brake fluid works but unless you are super broke then the time taken and the uncertainty of the end result is a waste.
just fork out c.15 sheet on a new shell, worth it in the long run

As Jon says, just save yourself the hassle and get a new shell . In my experience, most solvents that remove paint, damage the lexan, making it brittle.

I was going to say exactly the same as both Jon and Ginga said.

If you're that desperate to do something with the shell sell it and put the money toward what you spend on a new one.

I use White spirit seems ok for small bit during painting?

OK, I was hoping there may be an easy answer but it sounds like there isn't. Just a shame to waste an otherwise decent shell.

I agree with the above comments although dot3 or 4 brake fluid is meant to work quite well, but tbh I wouldnt pay say £10 for a bottle of it to use on a body when you can pick a body up for that bit more.

If your not too bothered about the look of the body and just want it for practice or bashing, why not rub down the flaked areas with a brasso pad and give it a coat of paint.

Lay some fresh duct tape on the paint and just rip it all off. Worked for me when a paintjob went tango uniform - forgot to wash the body...
