Hi, can someone please tell meif a 81 tooth spur gear fit in the WE...I have been told it don't, but I am not convinced. I want to try it with a 18 pinion...?

i currently use 17 81 on 5.5 brushless as does nearly every one else and how does what motor you use affect if a spur fits:confused:

Bert, not once did I suggest that different motors would affect the fit of a spur gear, I only wanted advice on weahter it fits and what ratio would be best....:confused:

Bonded 5.5's you should start around 15-16/81 as Chris suggested :)

For sintered start around 18/81 ;)

They are made in a different way, basically bonded rotors rev more and have less torque and run hotter. Sintered run cooler, have more torque and are usually more reliable.

Thanks, so am I right by saying it is down to personal choice to which one choose to race with, or is there a common theme to which the races choose? I race mostly on Astro turf, out doors.....

Bonded can feel better to drive in 2wd or low grip tracks and has more progressive brakes than sintered generally, but sintered is the way to go because of the higher efficiency and reliability. Especially now (for Nosram/LRP at least) you can get smaller diameter sintered rotors that feel more like a bonded to drive.

For 4wd you want a Nosram Storm Evo 5.5 with one of the sintered tuning rotors, either the 12.5, 13 or 14mm diameter one depending on how much low down torque you want. (Bigger = more torque, less rev's).

Does brushless require 'bigger' more powerfull batteries? Currently running 3800's, but looking at getting 4200's or even 4600's. What would you suggest?

You can order directly off the Mirage website or any shop with an account with them can order parts for you.

You can run any cells you like with brushless systems, due to the lower losses they do get more benifit from newer cells though. Capacity isn't really an issue these days, 2wd I come off with more than half the pack left and 4wd almost half a pack on my 9 month old 4200's.

Something to consider is the weight of the cells, the lower capacity cells are usually slightly lighter and have less punch, which is what you want with brushless in 2wd. In 4wd you can almost never have enough power if you're sensible so the higher capacity, more powerful cells can be an advantage :)

There's no upper or lower weight limit for cells per se, but the cells from 2007 won't be allowed after April 1st due the the manufacturers letting their cells get slightly bigger in each generation and trying to get more out of them. We are starting to see failures that can be dangerous so the cells for 2008 have had to be revised/replaced.
