trf201 shock rebuild.

I rebuild the rear shocks and it seems that they are not really smooth ,they are really stiff,
Same with new rubber rings,
The shocks are the greys ones with the normal silver shaft and for some reasons the Rings assembly combination does not match the one on the manual.
What I got is 2x rubber rings and 2xplastic rings.

I would recommend following Lee's guide on TRF Racing.

Do the plastic rings move freely on the shock shaft? You may need take a reamer to it, just to widen it a little.

Strange to hear as the TRF201 comes with gold shock bodies and shock shafts, did you get it second hand? Follow the manul exactly, maybe you mounted on of the plastic shims (i think the smaller one) in the opposite direction, i think there are 2 white plastic parts. One rod guide and 2 shims. It would be better to buy the Rod guide set and better Orings than the Tamiya ones, the rod guide set allows you to shim the O ring, makeing it smoother or harder just as you like, part number is 53979:

yes the buggy was second hand and came with the grey shocks??

Probably someone has used the gold cylinders on their 511 and sold the 201 with the std cylinders. Nothing wrong with them. The shim set that muratti posts a link to replaces some of what you have. It comes with instructions. Sometimes you need to shave a fraction off the std guides so that it doesn't compress the oring quite so much.

Yea I have had a shock body ever so slightly oval too.

Shaving? I guess so because every ring will not fit.

No, the TRF201 has the rod guide set as standard. That´s what the manual is showing.
You have the "standard" aeration damper parts. You seem to have all those parts.

So the 2 thin plastic spacers and shim you see in the 201 manual are replaced with one thick spacer. And there is no spacer/guide at the bottom of the bottom cap.

So you put one o-ring in the bottom cap, then the thick spacer and on top of that the other o-ring.
In the shock body you put the thin spacer.

Is the thin plastic spacer warped? Or is it ok?

I will rearrange the rings in the way you are saying,at moment I inserted the two rings together with plastic spacers on each side.

Just make sure that they dont leak. I did the same when i used the std orange o-rings and it made them feel much more smooth.

They are much better now ,but I did reassembled in the wrong order , guide-ring-ring-spacer. Once home will rearrange to ring-guide-ring-spacer.

There are also 2 different piston lengths.
Coated only available in one length front/rear though.
201 comes with all options. 511 and 502X with the parts you have.

Coated shaft and shock bodies are supposed to have lower friction. Not sure if they are worth upgrading performance wise. Bit bling of course.
Maybe top guys notice the difference, who knows.:)
