my friend has got a xx4 which is getting way to hot as it melted the end bell where the bearing sits he runs a purple spur gear and tryed a 17 19 pinion on a 11x2 motor any help and i can sort him out cheers

what batterie-pack does he run? how much tooth does that purple spurgear have? and wich endebell was melted/wich section is that.

not sure of the size of the spure gear he uses gp3700 and it was the part where the bearing sits the bit u can ajust the timing if that helps

ah it's the motor?! so, did he ever let the armature get in sight of a comm lathe? did he renew the diff's? try to check on all the ballbearings... the xx-4 causes alot of stress to the electronics when the maintenance isent done well.
and if you want a motor that does not overheat that fast... try one with the new checkpoint can.
we run them this summer in xx-4's/ mr4-bx @ 36°C outside and with 4200er shv cells, and they do the job.

20 tooth pinion sounds closer, the xx4 is very critical of gearing, one tooth either way and they get a bit too hot.
He will need holes in the body as well.
