View Full Version : Blitz vs DESC210
Having seen the prototype Durango DESC210 flying around the track on Sunday at A1 I'm in a quandary; I've got a Blitz ESE at the moment and am loving it and upgrading it as I go - my question is should I carry on spending on the Blitz or will the SC210 blow it out of the water straight out of the box (even with my lack of driving skills) - it just looked so planted and more like a 4WD SC.
Whats the general feeling amongst those that have seen it?

I was at A1 last night while Jon was running the DESC210. I had my Blitz ESE there for it's first run.
Ignoring the fact that I am to driving what Big Daddy was to ballet dancing I have to say that I would not have stood a chance against it, the way it clipped apex's was more like a buggy/tourer and it went effing fast round the twisties (but dunno what motor it had in it - if it was a 10.5 then I want that motor :woot:)
Will I get one? Probably, because I like "new" stuff.
Should I get one? No, because it won't make hardly a ha'peth of difference to my lap times (a crap driver is a crap driver whichever way you shake it).
I'm gonna be controversial here and say that from where I sit the SC landscape seems to be pretty stable. All nice big wobbly trucks with not much between them. Run a Slash, SC10, Blitz or whatever and you'll have close racing and be happy. When a potential game changer (DESC210) comes along then everyone who wants to be competitive feels they have to jump ship to keep up = more expense etc. I am as guilty as that as anyone here with my buggy but I really do think that SC can step away from that line of thought. It's a "fun" class - you don't need to be super competitive, that's the whole point. SC can be to RC racing what BRISCA stock cars are to full size motorsport, they still have good racing at the end of the day.
Anyway, my Blitz actually went 1000% better than I expected and I'm glad I went with the inline steering blocks and the HPI ally rack, it's a completely different beasty to the RTR I had before. Much more stable, less floppy and superb turn in. It just felt a bit like it was on its tiptoes at times which I didn't like but I'll get used to that.

As with the 4WD truck, the new Durango is a game changer for UK 2WD SCT racing,
It is very light and nimble, plus the mid motor option means it will have advantage on high grip tracks and on any jumps. Because it is set up to be rear motored it should be good on the dirt!
It is definitely strong as I've already seen Adam Skelding smashing a prototype into concrete track markers to try and break it with no damage!
Credit to John Brook as well though, he is a very good driver and certainly has the knack for getting an SCT around a track consistently quick
The Durango will bring more drivers to the class, anyone running a 210 will already have set up ideas and spares to carry over

Having just brought spoolio's old blitz rtr I was a little miffed to see the desc210 get announced however as a total newbie I doubt it would make that much difference to me. Saying that if it gets released at a reasonable price, the blitz may well be up for sale.
Having witnessed a bit of johns driving of late I wish I had 50% of his talent and a helpful fella to boot, not forgetting brook senior.

I whole-heartedly agree - SCTs are more fun because of their....'interesting'....handling. If you want something that is like an SCT but more raceable, I'd far rather look at a SCB. They'd be a lot of fun on a nitro track.

I ran the blitz tonight omg how different to the maverick.. I guess some of that is with it not being 4wd.
Think I'm going to need to spend more time on the sticks as I am plain crap at driving.
