I agree. F1 cars are interesting looking, due to their functionality, but they are not beautiful machines in my eyes.

Ferrari road cars in general, AC Cobra etc.... they are beautiful :D

I dont think I could chose just one. There are so many cars I really love for differing reasons. I think the Group B reallycars are beautiful, but its more like how an F1 car is beautiful.

I've been a mega fan of the Zonda ever since first seeing images of it but I dont think it's design keeps me comming back, I think for overal beauty the GT40 is hard to beat.

993 911 Turbo? My Dad's been thinking about that for a while, a proper original air cooled one anyway......

Nick Goodall
27-03-2008, 11:46 AM
Yep Bugatti - I used to love seeing them race at old Silverstone Vintage meetings my uncle used to go to (He had E-Types, Old MG TF's and other stuff) but those small bugatti's with the odd camber on the front wheels sounded amazing!!!!!

mattym0310
27-03-2008, 12:02 PM
Yeah bugatti type 35b and the bottom one is a bugatti royale [only three in the world and 6 engines :wtf:]

yeah i go to those! really good to watch, they overtake in cars made in the 1920's ans 30's! some from around 1900!! unlike F1 who just sit in the same place and their cars are a lot more modern, a lot more technically advanced and hundreds times safer!

anyways.. back oin subject :D

Theres no replacement for displacement.:thumbsup:

A displacement of 7011cc is achieved thanks to bore and stroke measurements of 104.8 x 101.6mm, the dry-sumped motor boasting an OBD-II compliant emission control system with dual heated oxygen sensors and a high-volume EVAP system making it 50-state legal in North America. Also present are hydraulic valve trains, a magnesium oval bore throttle body and intake manifold (the former mounted longitudinally). Producing 550bhp at 6400rpm, the engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox (also longitudinally mounted) with a four-plate hydraulically-operated clutch.

Just to add about the Street legal 911 GT1:

(From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911_GT1)

Street-legal version
Regulations for the GT1 category stipulated that to be eligible, a total of 25 cars must be built for road use. Porsche developed a fully road-legal version of the GT1 and delivered one in early 1996 to the German government (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_government) for compliance testing, which it passed. The engine had to be slightly de-tuned to meet European (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe) emissions laws, although its 544 PS (400 kW) and dry weight of 1100 kg (2425 lb) proved to be more than adequate; the vehicle could accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph).

Like the 911 GT1 there was also the Merc CLK GTR - Remember the Le Mans version taking off and flying through the tree's on the straight??

Beauuuutiful

I remember that yeah...it was on the mulsanne straight where they both went flying away...

Does any one remember that btcc crash a few years ago where the nissan completely cleared the outer fencing and ended in the trees?

From a distance, I like Lamborghini's, but close up they are built very badly.

Favourite cars at the moment:

They did make a handful of Road going 911-GT1's:

http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/images/porsche/911gt1evo_1.jpg

Have a search on the net :-) They weren't cheap mind.....

Yup, I know that. The one I posted was the Porker made in 1998, after the FIA opened up the rules (which no longer required the 25 road cars), effectively making them closed top prototypes.

The pic you have is of the 911 GT1-EVO, from 1997. the GT1-98 was a completly new car.

As for the Mercs. The Original CLK-GTR was the one that whooped ass in 1997, and was then replaced with the CLK-GTR-LM at LeMans in '98.
The CLR was the Merc that flipped in '99 (same again with the GT1-98, it was a closed top prototype, not a homologated "road car").

Call me pedantic, but I like to be accurate about what car is which :p ...
Have a look here for more info on sportscars etc

www.mulsannescorner.com (http://www.mulsannescorner.com)

So Porsches...
'95/96 - 911 GT1
'97 - 911 GT1-EVO
'98 - 911 GT1-98

Merc's
'97 - GLK GTR
'98 - CLK GTR LM
'99 - CLR (flipper)

Ed

This is still where car perfection is at :) (granted, it's subjective, but it floats my boat... enough to make this CG model of it!)

Cheers!

I saw a Bugatti Veyron at the MPH show in November, it drew a big croud - It didn't really look anything special when in the same hall as a Bugatti Royale, Ferrari F40, loads of Lambos, TVR's, then there was the Zonda, Maclaren mercedes, Astons, Spyker... they all eclipse the Veyron in terms of looks and wow factor in my opinion.

Its just the Veyron is built to be an extreme machine which is more impressive than its looks.

its got that subaru feeling to it - so damn ugly it looks amazing!

it was pretty crap on the track though

I like my cars ready to race, road cars are nice and all, but they just look too tame and toned down.

The Veyron sets out with Different goals to those others, so it is indeed a very different machine, and I guess appeals to a different crowd also (typically those who spend more on their Veyron than I'll have earned in total before I die).

Cheers!
