1st off, im from Sweden, my English aint so good, and i hope ya all can understand some of what i will wright here..can someone post a link with the code so i can do the pics SMALLER, thank you
To make a long story, short. My first ever rc-car was a Tamiya Wildwilly got it back in -82 still have it...DRY rubberwheels :D. No electronics, but someday...i will restore it.
I have always wanted a LB, a friend had one back in the 80´s and there it started...so for a few days ago, i did it..i ordred the LB from Honkong, but before everything, i read a lot of the car on rcuniverse, and here. Still a lot of unanswered questions, but hopfully they will come :).
Since im in to racing 95% of my rc time, i have a need for speed.. (2wd and 4wd buggy El 1:10th). But this one, wont come near the performance my buggys will give me, i wil only build this one for fun, and to have anything to play with..kind of missed it a bit..
I hope to "pimp" it so much i can, and do some job on the handling...a major order from Towerhobbies will go on Tuesday. Will use Brushless spedo from LRP and a motor, around 6-7.5r and Lipo 4400mah for some runtime..
This is a copy from my project thread in Sweden..enjoy and il try to keep ya all updated.
Thomas P / back to basic :)?
Tires and rims...
Bought Hornet AluHEX, they will let me try some diff 12mm Hex rims... i have or will order thoose..
RPM Bully rear/front (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMTA0&P=7) (5mm axel är det, där har vi Traxxas NR som e bra)
HPI SS Monster Wheel (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM875&P=V)
Traxxas Front Light wheel Dyable Truck (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJJ87&P=C)
Rims above wil be shrouded with Proline rubber
Trac-Ta-Gator (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT93&P=7)
Speed Paw (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT95&P=7)
Striker II. (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT97&P=7)
Batteries are as i said erlier, not decided yet, but it will probably be E-Power lipo 4400 mah 2s 20-30C series
My goal with this isnt speed , only joy..it will have a custom painted Parma lexan body for use, and a "nicer" stock body for meeting...

Those shock bodies.. how exactly did you get them shiny silver like that? just cleaned them in Mr Muscle cleaner?? which one?
Neil
Autosolvo by the looks of it, but you either got to keep doing it or sprat lacquer them (but they loose a little shine).
Looks wicked though!!

So..final race is over...to anwser ya Q :D
First Mr Muscle (it is a strong oven cleaner...not so healthy to breath in) it kind of loosen up the "color" on the house..you have to use something to rubber it of, like a fine sanding paper for wet use, like 800-1200 grid..im using a 3M-sponge, to final adjust Autosol crome finish.
im hopning to do something today..im not sure..

A friend of mine, on another forum made his lunchbox brushless, and broke a front wheel, so BE CAREFUL.

So, some "offroad" feeling...the car handels real good (but still sooooo bad :D)..the 3rd shockmod helped me to get the "klick" sound from rear axle to disappear .
this is one-hand-filmed movies...i "think" it handles pretty good for a LB..the power is so perfect!! my kinda style :P
Lite mera filmer från dagens bravader..enhands filmade.. fen den e perfekt i fart o kraft..o klarar vissa delar av bumpigheterna bra faktiskt..

Had one, way back in the day, and did a umbh of upgrading to it including shocks and motor, etc..........
.......and much like my initial stab at it, it appears you went for too much motor - I'd think a 10.5 would be perfect - and I'm curious why you didn't paint up one of the lexan bodies as they help with the top-heaviness of it tremendously.
good stuff though..........

I brought my ole king blackfoot home - it's in a bit of a state but I was going to put lipo, brushless and proper servo in it, oh and lock up the rear diff with 'something'
What the chuff are those mega tyres? Do the rims just fit on the lunchbox? I guess there's a front (with bearings) and rear wheel? Any links to where you got these bad boys.
My blackfoot has I think a rounded cell tray which might make fitting a square lipo hard work, but I will see.
Awesome writeups Thomas, I wish I could read them all :(

Thank you all, the rims are Traxxas http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJJ86&P=7 on tower rear ones..
This is the front ones.. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJJ87&P=7.
Here is the tires..the Proline Trac-Ta-Gator.. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT93&P=7
BUT, BUT i dont like the Hornet adapters..they will make the threads to short on the rea axles, and ya hav not got enough to mount a nylock nut... so il use my HPI adapters..that come along with the "monster SS rims.. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM875&P=7
OBS: i do have plans to translate my whole blog in to Eng, that will take a time...
Some more Brushless action..
Nope, havnt glued my tires, almost un nessesary :D:D:D

Updated the Blog, with one Swe side and one UK
The Lexan bodies is now beeing custom painted..stay tune :D

Some testing with stock tires...da*n so fun this car is..now it can slide..the Trac tires they do suck the car down, but this is real fun, wider and little more slippery

You inspired me  I am currently building a brushless 3cell lipo Tamiya king blackfoot. I've had the truck for years but it was always a bit underpowered - just tested it with the Mamba Max and its a beast now!
I was going to put glue in the diff to lock it up - but when I looked at it I thought, nah! and filled it with screws instead! haha locked it up nicely.
I used some beadlock wheels on the back - which should keep the tyres on at 60mph or whatever it will get up to.
I'd like to put the bead lock wheels on the front as well (to keep the look) but they use a hex instead of bearings, so I need to try find a way to fit them (maybe adapt an axle on there)
The steering is a bit sloppy, I put a 14kg torque ACE servo in there, but the saver is rubbish and moves around a lot. There is also an incredible ammount of bump steer. Never mind.
It should be pretty mad when it's finished - I'll make sure to get some photos :)
Thomas P
14-04-2008, 04:24 AM
Glad to hear that you are in da game Jimmy :D. That ACE servo is my favorite, that will hold for ages. Maybe HPI have some nice converters for those rims Jimmy, im not sure if they sold separately.
Pics is a must..maybe a short clip of that BEAST of yours :D:D
jimmy
14-04-2008, 10:02 AM
If I get it in a reasonable looking state tonight I'll get a couple of pics, but it still needs a bit of work to make it nice. I want to move the ESC down into the guts of the chassis - and make some splash guards to protect it
I'm not too fussy about the beadlock wheels on the front - I painted the front wheels black to match the rear beadlocks. But any photos of what these HPI adaptors look like? I've done a search and can't see anything that might work.
jimmy
16-04-2008, 10:00 PM
I should call mine 'project crap' or something. The truck looked very boring and beaten when I got it - also rusty... hmmm! So I painted the shell matt black, which made it look really quite nice, then I airbrushed rust all over it and oople logos (airbrushed not stickers).
The rear wheels are beadlocks and the front are satin black painted originals
This truck is still running on plastic bearings so I need to replace those before thinking about getting it running. it should be pretty mental :)
