one thing, i just "testmounted" the trannybox "empty" on the chassi, it seems it does not "sunk" in the hole..i mean, it have a gap on 1mm or less between the tranny and chassi where the screws will be attached to hold the tranny in place, is the hole ment to be sanded down a little bit to get it down on chassi?

EDIT it was a little "left over" on the trnny side, that i missed, SO sorry!!, there aint NO problem, it is 100% fit..it is

It shouldn't need trimming/filing, mine went straight in. I've not heard of the other 3 kits I know the owners of having problems either.

Are you 100% sure the tranny is together fully? May I suggest building the tranny up and screwing the motorplate etc on then have another look at how it fits. If you've still got troubles maybe you could take some measurements the hole and box bottom and I'll check everything is correct.

Do the edges..
Mount tranny together

i will use a fanless TSPEC, il see if i can do something nice with the cables :P have an idea :D

As promised:

The S2's you see people receiveing are pre-orders which i have now starting to deliver.

Due to the process used to make a moulded carbon fibre chassis, its not possible
to make the chassis in bulk. So i expect demand to be higher than what i can produce
at least for the next few months.

Thomas isn`t special either:thumbsup:

Cant mount the rear shocks at all...the upper adj turnb will BIND the shock and arm..i tested a shim app 3 mm, way to short, still binding heavy..i think il need much longer stuff, but that means buying some stuff over this kit..looked att Matts S2 and i ca see some blue stuff that will put the ballend longer away form the tower...

mja, dont know now about this...

Thomas P
07-04-2008, 02:07 PM
Tried to skip my Lunsford mounts, but still no good..i need some serious long ballstuds on the tower to get the rear upp arm more 90 degres toward tower..like it is now, i will destroy my shocks and the car wont run a meter...

Thomas P
07-04-2008, 02:41 PM
Even mowed the ballstuds to the inner hole, it turned out to be better, IF i using the 4 mm shim on ball stud..the problem is on the Slipper side, the ballend cant "come on the stud", to narrow to the motor mount plate.. (if i use the puter hole, will "bind" the arm when it touches the damper..

Maybe im doing everything wrong, but im kind of handy :)..right now, i wont finsih this car, thats for sure :S

Here is a thread with some pics from elvos car from the euro indoor race in Lahon.

http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8340&highlight=euro+indoor

Looks like he turned the shock bushings around and used thin nuts on the end towards the tower. On top of that he's got spacers on the ball end in the tower and some at the bottom of the shocks.

Maybe you won't be able to use the Lunsford parts...

Car looks great

Edit: A quick and ugly fix would be to space the shock tower further back... Ugly but works...

Yes, I've put a 3mm blue washer behind the inner ball stud and the tower, and the hubs,... ... might be reversed. Can't remember off the top of my head, but anyway, on my car it's the same as in the CAD drawings - which should, ideally, be in the online manual Jonathan is editing. oh - and be sure to use a tall (high) ballstud on the tower, and a short neck (the black one that is in the hubs on a STD B4) on the hubs for max clearance.

Shock bushings are also the other way around from 'normal'. Blue spacers on the bottom of the shocks are optional, you only really need these if you're using AE shocks and you tighten the hell out of the top shock bushing like me.

Thomas P

turnbuckles go thru spring, and touches the house of the damper when it goes up (compressed)

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/gabbax_74/s2/S5031059.jpg
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/gabbax_74/s2/S5031060.jpg

Dremeld down the losi bushings for the shocks so the Lunsford works, it is real "tiny" against the tower..

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/gabbax_74/s2/S5031061.jpg

Spacer on the Arm, to get the shock further away from T-buckle..and only running ap 3mm spacer on the ballstud, longer and i cant use it on the inner hole..it will be worse if i use the outer hole... the angle will be "harder"

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/gabbax_74/s2/S5031062.jpg

app 12-15mm ballstud would do the trick. but the longest i can found is 3/8 (10.X mm but then i cant use the inner hole on the Tower...

How about flipp the rear arms, are the wheelbase getting real of then?

Edit

I have dismounted the Lunsford, and mounted the Losi shocl"bushings" on the bolddirekt against the tower, and STILL no good..it will still Bind up..

To flip the rear arms like the S4, will solve the problem , but as i think, the handling will be very diffrent?..however, i dont think i will move on untill a solution is here..to bad, i luv the car,the quality everything, but a thing like this can get me to se Red.

if ya have a good soloution on this one, let me konw.

Try to take away the Lunsford mounts and place the top of the shock closer to the tower... the body of the shock is under the tower right?

Edit: I see you beat me to it

It now looks as shimming back the whole tower is the solution. At least that would be a solid solution. Shimming the camber link would be risky...

What you also could try is to interchange the left and rear hub, and mount the camber links on the other side. It will be at a slight angle though but not that much I think... (the rear arms are also angled/toed)

What does the manual say about the hubs?

Is this the way the car should be built in? However, now it works, but it feels "wrong".

How does it affect on the cars handling to flip the rear hubs and then mount the C-linf on the other side?

Nothing.

It gives way more space for the shocks, but you can't use hole 'C' in the hub. Then you'd need the tall ballstud in the hub and the black one on the tower.

That's quite an angle. But don't worry! Dr. Elvo is ALWAYS right... it's almost a bit annoying

Elvo, how about mounting the shocks upside down? Might give some more space... and a much lower COG! PLUS, the shafts would be better protected from dust...

To begin with, the shafts are not hollow :-D

Emulsion shocks = anything without bladders or closed-cell foam.

Yes thomas, it will not affect the handling, the wheel base will stay the same and everything.

Dont mind the springs they are just for the looks, i will mount som new rear and front arms + C-hub and rear hubs to get less mesh...this looks real good, i have some "high neck" studs so i can use every hole if i want to...again THANK YOU!!!!!

Thomas, this is how you mount the shocks, as most people use losi shocks i assumed they would use the Losi shock bushing ;)

If you follow the build guide and use the 3mm spacers which are in the kit, and mount the hub carriers also as per the build guide then you will be ok.

The alternative is to use a shock bottom and ball, and use a long screw rather than a ball stud.

Thomas P

Another option is to use the rayspeed or racers edge hubs which have a vertical mount in the center of the hub for the ball stud ;)

Elvo, how about mounting the shocks upside down? Might give some more space... and a much lower COG! PLUS, the shafts would be better protected from dust...

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I always thought that mounting shocks upside down would give rather bad suspension properties due to the higher unsprung mass. It would be like putting weights on the wishbones. This would theoretically make the whole suspension system react slower and outweigh the advantage you would have due to the lower C of G...

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thomas, your car looks the dogs bollocks by the way!!!

@Elvo: LOL! :-D Ooooh! That was a nasty surprise! Osvaldo, if you ever learn english and read this... I will never forgive you for that! :-@ But really, they didn't have a bladder or foam. But one soft and one hard O-ring under the piston, remember? I think the AE 1:12 shock is similar as to volume compensation. Did you ever test this?

@Sparrow: I never heard that argument before, so I dunno. But I raced a 1:8 TR car with that for some years and it worked very well!

Picked up my S2 today!

To be honest I have wondered if Thomas P was a religious fanatic :D ...

But now I understand what it's all about!

-That carbon tub is the best looking RC part I have ever seen! This is F1! :wub
-Everything is meticilously packed and marked
-Very cool & distinct bodyshell

And I know it all works! In God and Elvo we trust! :D

Jonathan, I take my hat off and take a deep bow! Talk about taking pride in your work!

Yes, those front air intakes are simply way too large and "bulky" for my taste. I'm so sorry! :( Looks like two giant nostrils on a dragon :D

The atomized B44 shell is better, it's not so pronounced on that one.

But again, don't worry about me. If you like it that's great!

Race update - SÖderhamn Mayrace

Track condition - Lose, dusty, rough, slippery and sometimes good grip..

The track is one of my favorite tracks, real Dirt!..one day event, 2wd and 4wd..i took the S2 with me for a test, had no plans to do "well", this was the first test on dirt with my car...my maine class is 4wd with the S4..

Practice was good, the track is slippery, the car felt little...i lost traction on power out of corners, but many other had this problem to, what other said it looks like the car handled good, and i think so to..there was NO time for big setup change.. and it was app 31 starting in the 2wd class.. Daniel Aka Bbq took TQ, and the Win...i manage to take 2nd qualification to A-Final before a bunch of real good drivers https://download.storegate.se/b2O7Otye2RCIm02WQMJ6Tyt;9r2+1ktlsPBGUCXZlIvlhdRkcE m1yg==/Resultat_Majracet.pdf

to bad, it was stress, less rutine from my side...i finished 7th and i am happy, the car works real good, but i think i will only drive one car at the time...

Last in the racereport (in Swe sorry) i have attached a Setup sheet..

Hi Thomas,
i'm now to plan to buy the BJ4WE conversion kit, i have a question is about the rear arm, in BJ4WE, the shock is fix at the front of it, but when i look some pics from this forum, all of them change the shock to the back of rear arm, is it i need to make a hole at the back? or this is the new rear arm include in the conversion kit? many thanks!

What is the benefit with the "new" S2 vs the first "tube s2" car? i have read somewhere that the new one have bigger adjustment in wheelbase?

Any affects on loose tracks etc ? anything else that is new?

Anyone?

gonna pick up mine tomorow :D

Chassis tub version SWB is 1cm shorter than basic chassis tub version.
But rear suspesion arms are 6mm more behind on SWB version.
(Wedging 6mm front fo the suspension arm).
Then wheel balance is 4mm shorter for the SWB version than first version.

I try SWB but i find it very aggressive steering, but I have to try again...

Thomas P
24-03-2009, 08:42 PM
Ok, this version has a lot of steering if im right? How about rear grip?

It is easier in my meaning to work steering away then find it.

If i not remebering wrong, when i used my old s2 (first tube verison) it was kind of slippery on real loose tracks...the end was almost everywhere...but the car was working REAL good, took me to 3rd pos Qual of 31 finished 7th 2008/05

Looks very nice, but how will you prevent the battery packs from sliding to the back of the car? I know you have a Li-Po tray, but normally lead is used which will raise your battery pack over the tray height.

Thomas P
03-05-2009, 05:07 PM
I wont run my S2 with any Led. the only Extra i use is the brass reartoe block. Im no fan of extra weight, and i think with some laboration with the setup i will find a descent one for my car. I am against Led cant stand the thought of it :D... (i have been running my erlier S2 with only 5 cells) and that aint such a big diffrence between 5 cells and the Lipo packs im using)

Thanks ROssi for the comments, a ic when the ESC and motor is installed will be up asap the arrives to me..

V-Rossi
03-05-2009, 06:57 PM
I like to run it with some extra weight, depending on the track. I always use at least 100gr of lead under the Trakpower packs, but on some tracks 200gr is just awesome.

Thomas P
04-05-2009, 03:49 AM

So sorry for my late reply´s..i have been busy with my work and my family,so the updates have not come up...this is some small text from the past Tuesday and Thursday...

Tuesday : This was my grand opening...have not been driving any car on this track since the Swedish nationals last year on the Astro track "green hill". Season 2009 i have bought me a Atomic carbon S2 SWB check Atomic Carbon Site here---> Hit me (http://atomic-carbon.gforceimages.net/ck.html) This is the new improved 2wd car from them, the biggest result of change is the wheelbase ( SWB-Short wheel base). Anyway @ the track i was kind of vervous and i think it went well..small mistakes, but longer running, better it went.

So...finaly i raced my S2 SWB..for the first time, and 3rd time overall with 2wd out doors.. (2 race erlier was May race 2008 old S2 Qualified 2nd or 3rd finished 7 or 8 , and a B4 in Swe nationals 2007 finished A main app 7-9 cant remember).

This time it was Sweden cup Orebro like last year..last year i only raced the S4 qualified 9th to Amain and finished 9th...so in 2wd i had NO hope since my favorite is the 4wd class...a lot of GOOD drivers was here, so i finaly took last place in A main..finished after thre finals as number 5..i am VERY pleased!! the car i so dialed!!!!!!!!!

pics will come up later.
