I know its still 2 weeks away but hey, i cant wait:thumbsup:
Any questions, thoughts,predictions.
My prediction For 2wd is either Cragg or Bloomers, if its not one of them too then im reckon it will be another driver from the A final:thumbsup:
And Yardy for 4wd, thats it :woot:

I would love to see 10 different types of 4WD car in the A-Main, that would be awesome!
Its possible!!!
Cat
S4/S44
BJ4
HB
Aero
Pred
B44
Yok
Losi
Xfactory
Kyosho
Tamiya
But realistically some teams dont have the drivers.
Chris Doughty
03-04-2008, 08:59 AM
there was 8 different chassis at the indoor finals. just need to push out a few of the HB crowd with some other cars and hey presto!

My prediction is-
Heavy rain, or Hail like last year.
You lot were ok when that happened, you want to try racing TC's on 10mm hail with a 5mm ground clearence.:lol:......very interesting. It was like trying to race a shopping trolley.
We'll have less about pushing th HB team out of the way too Mr D.:p

I don't think Daz is doing the 1/10th Nats this year is he??
I'd say Neil for 2wd, just because in the years i used to do Nats he was always sooo fast at Kiddy (not that he isn't anywhere else) - He just always seemed to like it there! Pidge could be close if he gets in though :-(

Sounds like a return of the regular matches at the euros but on a national scale.
Someone should start a thread where people can put their name down for either team...
That should keep the non-footballing oople users happy!

Stu Evans bored them into submission tho and they left. Think it's generally pretty decent round there, I think people walking around the tents would soon get 'spotted' and tackled.

enough of the welsh crap...
I reckon Neil for the 2wd and Lee to be super close behind him.
In 4wd it'll be Chris to win with Lee putting up the good fight behind......
I'd also put Tony Truman in both A finals, with a top 5 in 4wd, or else I'll have to kick his sorry ass again....

Anyone know if theres any rule against using illegal cells for practice at nationals? I assume I can use whatever I want, even lipo? or is that not the case? I only have 2 packs of 'legal' cells so don't want to over use them.
DaveG28
18-04-2008, 12:47 AM
This won't really help Jimmy but I'm sure sopmeone told me practice is open rules wise, just not sure if thet actually knew!!
I used LIPO in practice at the indoor finals though, and I think they're mean;t to be as strict? Plus I'm using illegals in practice Sunday, so you won;t be alone in missing practice if they're not allowed!

Postcode for the nearest place is DY13 8NH, which is for a school at the "U-turn" end of the Dual Carriageway.
Coming from Kidderminster town, follow the Sat-Nav to the far end of the dual-carriage way. Then U-Turn and go almost to the other end. THe entry to the track is on the left just after the sign post warning of traffic lights.

there have been stop-go's and other penalties applied in A finals I have been in previously.
sometimes the driver in question will let you pass the place back without any input from the ref.

LOL!
Actually, i wasn't referring to myself, i had no problems. However, whenever i've been in an A, or watched one, i've seen/heard/or been told of blantant 'take outs', or completely unneccessarily aggressive driving that's gone totally unpunished.
Last year, i made my first A at Southport, and understandably, i was a little overwhelmed by it all. I was being really cautious, but just got unceremoniously wiped out by others. I accepted it, cos it was my first A and i was absolutely buzzing.
The problem is, i've watched people work really hard in qualifying to get them as high on the grid as possible, only to see all their hard work undone by completely shit driving (and that is exactly what it is). The problem seems to be that the people who do this, are pretty confident that they'll get away with it.
Look, i'm not dissing the referees and officials. How can I? their tasks are selfless, and if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be able to race in the first place. However, i would absolutely love to see certain drivers punished for consistent dirty driving. And yeah, if it was me who mullered someone, i'd accept a ten second penalty without argument.

Is that really good enough though Chris? As during that time, others can pass you both, or gain time on you
maybe i'm a bit OTT in suggested that it 'never' happens, but it does appear that the A finalists get away with more than others. I'm only going from personal experience due to not having made many yet

not really, but it does depend on where in the pack you run and how many places its costs.
but is a penalty against the offending driver EVER going to be any reward to the injured party?
but you can exactly take 5 seconds off the injured parties time because they got had off.
the way I see it, when its side-by-side gentle 'elbows' is fine, any contact to the rear of someones car is not really acceptable, some 'touching' does happen, gentle bumps to the rear bumper in the really slow sections, but a full wing-munch is not racing.
I do try and drive (especially on the first few laps) defensively in a way not to block people, but to make sure my car has enough space around it in the front and the rear to survive the first few laps. sometimes I will go a little deep into a corner if I think someone behined fancies a late brake attempt at me to save my ass.

No not wrong at all Stan, I agree but if I ever make an 'A' final then I think I would have to change my driving style depending on who was behind or in front of me. All we all want is a law that is applicable to everyone and not let certain people get away with things.
We have all seen certain driving and thought 'that was a bit naughty' and what we need if to have a good level of driving.
BECAUSE IN QUALIFYING WE RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK (some drivers should remember this):eh?: - BUT FINALS WE RACE FOR PLACES

To all those complaining about penalties .
We as referees do to take into account alot of other issues when watching any race, Qualifing or Finals. at the moment we are not able to keep in touch with each other during a race due to Radio problems [ should be sorted for Oswestry]. The incident some of you have mentioned was seen and discussed at some length later. After Adams crap day I was witnessed a blatant back end shunt that the offending driver should have been penalised for [ We do not Ref our sons races ]. We expect as National F1 / F2 drivers you should have a reasonable driving standard others below that are given a greater error of judgement.
Yes I have given penalties to A finalist Jamie Booth was one who stands out in my mind, This weekend our first time finalist was also given a warning for his marshalling. I could go on, but is upto you as drivers to get the respect you think you deserve.
Ok something a little more positive, the meeting ran like clockwork from what i saw, im sure the Kiddiminster/Brca team worked hard but were totally in control and it showed
It was my first national weekend and although not qualifying as high as i wanted, i still had a good time and thats what its all about.
I think the trackside scoreboard is an excellent feature, i had seen these previously when i raced on road at a couple of venues and it adds some valuable information. It gets a thumbs up from me, it would be good to see what everyone else thought about it.:D

i really liked it!! thumbs up IMO
although Nick Oliver was confusing me by saying it was really good seeing what place you were in when you were racing. Dude, that was some seriously impressive multi-tasking

yeah it was a good weekend - shame about the weather though, at least the comedy cheering livened things up a little.

From an 'outsiders' point of view, I thought that fact that you could hear the PA system so clearly in the pits was very good. Meant that whilst sipping tea in Harris' tent I could hear what heat was on.
Really enjoyed Kiddy as a spectator. you '10th' lads put on a hell of a show for the viewers :)

When you going to come and do some proper outside racing? There is a 2wd regional on at Kiddy on Sunday 4th May, so get your arse down there.
See you Friday bud.
Mark
I was amazed how close it was, on sunday in 2wd gregg williams and myself were seperated by 4/10ths in one round, but we ended up having 3 people between us. That is impressive:thumbsup:

Is it just possible to have the 4WD A-main overall result?
Thanks a lot

I shall put results up tonight, but it was Lee Martin (AE B44), Simon Moss (CAT SX) & Tom Yardy (HB D4) - top three.
It was the same with me and ian southwell in one of the rounds on sunday. I think their was about 6/10's or something like that between us then when i looked on the overall standings there was about 6 drivers inbetween us.

For my first national I was amazed at how close it was (over the whole field). I thought it would be close as its the best drivers in the country, but the difference of being consistent is unbelievable.
If I'd managed to keep it on its wheels for 5mins for the two runs I would have gone up onto the 12's and possibly made up 50 odd places!! just from going 10-20sec's faster over the 5mins!!
You don't get that in too many TC meetings.
Deffinately need more practice to keep it right way up.:p:lol:
