Acoding to LRP, the QC3 is fully waterproof, as you can see here:
http://www.lrp-electronic.de/e/lis/02_Speedos/QC-3/QC3-Features.html
And here:
http://www.google.es/search?hl=es&q=lrp+QC3+waterproof&meta=
Now, look at the pics:

The "we need a box to wrap it up but making a new one is too expensive so why not take an old one and put a sticker on it" :p

This isn't an old box with a new sticker on tho is it? this is a dedicated QC3 box but with a sticker on to say suddenly 'april fools - it's NOT waterproof'

The reason is the artwork was done for the box well before the speedo was ever finalised. When it was first announced the idea was for it to be waterproof as per the QC2, but for design reasons only known to LRP this was not possible (components getting too hot when sealed in we are led to believe)
Since it was so long in production the already printed boxs were in fact wrong when they finalised the speedo, but for cosmetic and practicality reasons it made more sense to just use the original box and put stickers over the wrong bits. If you also look if you peel off the round "world champion" sticker on the front it says "lifetime warranty" underneath, which it now no longer has either, only a 25 year one (may as well be lifetime, but legal reasons prevent it!!!)

That could be the reason, but... why then LRP says at its web page that QC3 is waterproof?
Answer from LRP:
"Hello Mr. X,
for a better performance the Speed Controller isn´t waterproof.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / kind regards "
