Hi guys,

Due to a recent incident at a BRCA meeting involving 'lipo' battery safety!

Due to Health & Safety requirements, all SORC events will require;

All 'lipo' battery packs to be in good condition.
'Lipo' sacks to be in good condition.
All 'lipo packs' to be inside a sealed sacks while being charged.

There will be no exceptions to this requirement, we are all aware that there may be safety issues with 'lipo' battery packs and we are all responsible for our own safety and the safety of those we race with.

All members are reminded of the BRCA rules & recomendations (by the off road section) regarding the safe handling and managment of these types of cells.
Inspections will be made and any non compliance will be dealt with in the best interests of the safe running of the event, and of those safety concious competetors attending.

Failure to comply will mean exclusion from the event!

An excellent and timely reminder of this potential hazard. We all agree it's unlikely, that's not the issue, it's the potential.

We've all had a year of running to the BRCA rules now, plenty time to get setup, read the rules, understand what needs done, this is not new (or shouldn't be) to the vast majority of racers.

Don't be the person that is sent home at a round, make a point of charging in a sealed lipo sack every time so that it become second nature.

Surely if you see something unsafe you stop and explain / educate and point out what is wrong and unsafe?

At my work we have a policy never to walk past an unsafe act.

But sending someone Home?, this is sounding a little bit like School to me.

I'm sure even at your work, if someone is told to do something because it is potentially unsafe, and they continue to ignore it, they would be sent home (i.e. suspended), this is no different, people have been told a number of times now over a period of at least a year.

This is not a potential problem that will result in a minor injury, it has the potential to have a serious outcome. If you think the BRCA stance is wrong I'm happy to pass your comments to the BRCA and I'm sure they will only be to happy to reply to you directly.

I think maybe the wording 'sent home' is wrong. Maybe 'not being allowed to partake' could be better.

Either way, it's got to be done. Everywhere down south requires you to charge in a sack so why are we different up here? We've had two years to get used to doing so it shouldn't be a problem.

We have had this rule applied for a couple of years now and I cannot remember the last time I saw lipo's being charged outside a proper sack. It should be common knowledge now after all.

I work in an industry which puts safety first and we all work together to make our job / life as safe as possible. To date I know of nobody who has been sent home or suspended.

I like to think I race with Adults or people who behave like adults and thus will not be required to be sent home or suspended.

I don't understand your point about the BRCA but if your going down to a meeting or the AGM please pass on my regards.

I believe the rule is that if you are caught charging your batteries in an unsafe manor ie not in a LiPo sack that you will be disqualified from the meeting. To put it simply you would no longer be allowed to race for what is deemed a serious breach of the rules because of the dangerous nature of these batteries should something go wrong.

If I personally was disqualified I would be going home as what would be the point in staying. The rule is harsh I know but if it isn't then people wouldn't adhere to it
