Best carpet tyres for 2wd SC?

Guessing yellow pins, but can you get away with blues?

I use dBoots Nanobytes A compound on rear and Kourse Kings trimmed 2 rows off either side on front for carpet... same for dry Astro too.

Minipins are very aggressive and need trimming plus they last half as long as dBoots even Blue compound, yellows are worse obviously as they are softer, wouldn't bother with minipins on front as its far too much without lots of dremelling.

I stick with Fastrax yellow moulded inserts but Schuey have hard foams available now and AKA red moulded inners are supposed to be good but over twice the price of Fastrax plus AKA are a different shape which gives sidewalls less support.

With dBoots you have to trim the 3 reinforcement ribs out of the inside with moulded inserts or the tyre profile deforms badly

A lot of sc guys use blue pins as they last a bit longer, failing that yellows.

As above, yellows waaaaay to soft so avoid like plague unless you like grip rolling at every corner :thumbdown:. I had blue mini pins on mine and it was stil a right b*****d until I dremelled off the 3 outer rows on the fronts and the rest of the pins had worn down a bit. That being said, I couldn't get Kourse Kings to work on my Blitz on carpet, it had no steering at all with them.

if using the dBoots, use the AKA inserts, theyre moulded to fit round the ribs inside the tyre :thumbsup:

No they are not,

the AKA ones are 1/8th inserts and the ribs on dBoots still need trimming as they are much deeper.than the grooves.

We went through all the options testing on a Thursday night session when Brooky had the 2wd Durango SCT to play with

fitted fine inside my nanobytes without trimming and tyre profile is right all over the surface of it,

just took a little time to make sure they were all lined up on the ribs and work a treat. nice feel to them too, not too hard but not baggy like some of the other moulded ones (proline)

I used blue mini-pins on the back and nanobites with two rows cut off the outside on the front. Makes the car mega safe to drive and you have the traction for the carpet :thumbsup:

Can I just say that I have used only one set of blue mini pins all winter, with the exception if one pair if yellows on the rear at the first round of arena x. Only pins I cut off was the the outside row on the front. Didn't need to take any more off.

So that's five rounds of arena x, three or four Tuesday nights and two or three at bridgford on one and a half set of tyres :thumbsup:

Jez, Yeh I have just bought an SC-R, just waiting for the shell to come back from the painters and some new springs and its ready to go.. although I don't think i'll be using it at Moulten much, bought it for some dirt action... :D

If your using it on dirt then you'll need a dirt tyre....

I think worn Nanobytes will be worth trying on dirt too, carcass has a really nice soft feel like the Dirt tyres have... could be good on the front of 2WD with something strange patterened and American on the back! Terrabytes are on the way too for SCT so possibly a dirt contender :thumbsup:

For those that are wondering.... No i am not employed or bribed by dBoots, just an open minded fan and wouldn't rate anything that didn't work for me or thought worth trying, some folk write products off just because of banter/rumour or biased brand loyalty, which is a shame... plus dBoots pass the sniff test, smell much nicer than the other brands out of the packet... sweet rather than fishy, more than good reason to buy them :woot:

Yeh, I'm all sorted for the dirt tyres but its the carpet/astro that a bit of an unknown..

I've ordered some blue pins, dboots and some yellow spikes so between them I would hope i can get something to work on astro and carpet...

The pins will be good on carpet, you may have to take a few rows off the front. Spikes for Astro/grass.

Just one last Q, do you need to puncture SC tyres?

I never have. However if you are driving round on a pretty flat track i dont see why you would need to. If there are lots of jump/bumps/ripples, it may be a good idea to :thumbsup:

I ran yellow rear and blue front minipins at Off Road Wars, in and out off the back and about 3 in and out off the front if memory serves.

Always punch a couple of holes in tyres if you're using moulded inserts ;)
