With the V3 you get the big bore shocks for starters.

Love to know the difference too, as I am thinking of a 410 to use as a racer as my EXO is chronically broken.

I've read the propaganda on Durango's site and can see the difference, but the question for my is: is the extra cash/quality needed?

What's the difference in durability and performance from the upgraded parts? Which would you buy of the v3's and why?

If I was looking to replace my '09 car, I'd get the V3, for just a few quid more you get the big bore shocks, alloy suspension hangers, carbon shock towers, plus the Khuler shell.

As John states u get all the alloy braces. The plastic ones on the 410r snap VERY easily with minimal contact. Those parts alone would set u back £50. And are in most racers opinions considered essential!!
The big bore shocks transformed my car. The rest of the hop ups are just a bonus but the extra cash spend on the 410v3 is well worth it. If u buy the r u will def upgrade some of the parts and spend more than u would just buying a v3!!

Both cracking cars
Both have pros and cons
Both will go well around any track

It's the same. At basically, but on the R spec, the only alloy on the car is the chassis!

I reckon best value Durango at the moment is a 2nd hand old style 410 full fat.
Again it's the same car but fully loaded! You can pick them up for £140 +

I was about to say exactly the same thing  Good nick second hand will be unbeatable in price! And actually I'd try finding a 2010 spec: The only reason the 410V3 is so much cheaper than the 2009/2010 is because they don't include many machined aluminium parts: Servo frame/assembly, sidepods, rear gearbox/shock tower braces and probably a few more parts.

The 2010 has some updates that fix issues that people found on the first car/edition, which is nice. The only thing that the 2010 lacks are some updated/new parts, the biggest one probably being the big bore shocks - and I recall reading that here and there you'd still want the small bore shocks as they perform better?

I'd go for a V3, previously the original 2010 was so much more expensive than the R but there was no performance difference so it was difficult to justify the price tag. The V3 is cracking value and for what you get got the extra £70 the R seems pointless unless you're using it to rebuild a tired 410.

The big bores aren't necessary as look at Jorn's car, it doesn't have bog bores and it doesn't have the new motor mount. To be honest it looks like a 2010 with the new shock towers and rear wishbone hanger so getting a used one isn't a bad idea.

The plastic blocks don't snap easily, I replaced the plastic front block with a alloy one and all the rest are the original plastic blocks. I've had some nasty crashes, tweaked the chassis and still they haven't broke. If you break a plastic block then its obvious you deserved it.

Looking through Durango's website the following are standard parts on the V3, option parts on the V3R...

Anti Roll Bars
Big Bore Shocks
Aluminium Suspension Holder FF
Aluminium Suspension Holder FR
Aluminium Suspension Holder RF
Aluminium Caster Blocks
RR Suspension Hanger (Insert version)
Fine Tune Carbon Fibre Shock Towers
Aluminium Spacers

Other than that the cars seem to be identical, so it would seem what the V3 gives you over the R is aluminium parts in key areas for strength, some more adjust-ability with anti roll bars, insert RR suspension hanger, fine tune shock towers.

Big bore shocks are nice, but I have been told by a couple of people that the standard bores can be made to work just as well, I have borrowed a 410 from a mate as I am thinking about buying one myself it came with standard bores which made it twitchy and a little unpredictable in the bumpy sections (car would kick up) fitted a set of 210 big bores and the car much better over the bumps and jumps at my local track (Coventry).

Oh and some nice gold bling as well...

So at the end of the day it comes done to the amount of cash in your wallet, or which car is the best value for what you pay for it (the would be the V3 for me).

I think the difference in the origional two cars was justified
The was so much difference its un-real.

I think the V3 has been made to cheap. The V3 should have replaced the 410R
Durango should have made another fully loaded car. Just like the 410 but with all the new V3 upgrades.

And again retail it at about £400-£450

Yes it's a lot, but it's like comparing a fiesta to a Ferrari

Your best bet is to get a 410 full fat 2nd hand and a 410r for spares.

Good aluminium servo horn, threadlocked in with a shakeproof washer for good measure.

Simple job like changing it or doing the servo screw up often involves ejecting all the imaculatly postioned heat shrunk radio gear!!

So at the end of the day it comes done to the amount of cash in your wallet, or which car is the best value for what you pay for it (the would be the V3 for me).

I purchased a V3R. After building and running it for a short while, I have to say that I really wished I'd bought the full fat.

For just a bit more you get a whole set of very important alu suspension holders (FF being the most critical). Buying these guys separately and shipping them can add significantly to the expense. Further, if you buy the suspension holders separately, you also have to get ball ends to fit the hinge pins into the suspension holders.

Apart from the differences graveltrap listed above, the full fat V3 also comes with a new khuler body shell. It gives you more space up front for your electrics and such, is cab forward, and has a little lip at the back of it. It looks really nice. The DEX410 is a squeeze up front so the extra space would have been welcome.

The anti roll bars included as standard on the full fats are not strictly necessary, but they give you the option to use them. If you do decide you need them on the V3R you will have to purchase them separately. More $$.

If you're good enough on the track for such things to matter, the carbon fibre shock towers also lower the centre of gravity of the car slightly.

Big bores would have been welcome too.

So all in all, I really regret buying the V3R instead of the full fat V3. If you can afford the V3, just get that instead.
