I think you spray the inside as the over spray sheet is usually on the bottom of the wing when mounted.
A few thin coats work well and not crashing.
Think about a white vinly sticker CF style you can get them cheap on ebay

remove over spray film and paint that side which will be on the bottom, then coat with clear top coat,if you spray on top you get a dull finish which is always brittle,

I'm glad this has been brought up because I paint on top as the over spray film is on the bottom, I give a few thin coats of paint and then I use lacquer to finishes it off to give it that shine.

the film is on the wrong side due to how they mould the lexan wing at the same time as the body

It makes sense to paint the top as it's less likely to get scratched, however the finish won't be ultra smooth like it would if you paint the underneath of the lexan. As Big Red has said if you put a clear gloss over it that will make it shine and if you then cover it in decals no one is really going to notice.

I remove the cover and paint both sides the same colour (Black). It gives a reasonable gloss and if one side chips the other side still covers for it and you don't see the chip. Simples

Vinyl wrap! - Buy some off eBay, Little bit of hair dryer action and you have a stronger wing that wont chip!
