i remember it, it looked awesome, but never saw one on the track. Probably have pictures in an old mag at my parents house. think there was a thread on here not long back about it, try searching for "hybrid".

yeah, i remember it well. I had to run one when i was a team driver.

the car was severely narrow at the rear, so any sign of grip on a corner and the car would flip over. absolutely great for everything else though ;)

...it had Traxxas dampers on it as well :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

yeah Nick, it was probably even earlier than that TBH.

if that car had a wider rear end, it would've kicked so much ass you know

I have one in bits.... (new bits ;) )

A great car, but yes it used to fall over due to being so narrow, also the chassis broke at the rear, so much so that Brian Stacey (then owner of T.O.P) made a carbon plate that went under the tranny which I still have somewhere - it must be the thinnest bit of carbon you've ever seen!

As I keep telling terry, it didn't come with the Hydra as stock, but it was an option :lol::lol:

Release was late 1992, price £194.95

Hope that helps

Brian is no longer the owner he hasn't been for just over 10 years. Dave vine the owner now asked me to put this on. HKP if you were wanting to sell the car ring him he may be interested;)

Hey Stegger.. Yup I know Dave well. :) I was just saying that Brian made the carbon bit years ago to improve the breaking chassis issue.

I have RCMC and RCCi reviews of both the Hybrid and the Hybrid truck which i did have online but seeing as I'm now associated with one of the UK mags, thought it best to take them offline - don't wanna get me knuckles rapped for copyright infringement like!!

I think i remember Duncan Lewis from Shrewsbury models running one of these back in the day when BCL meetings we're the Nationals of the Midlands.

Seem to remember Craig / Richard Hughes might have run one, or it could have been one of the Jerrom (spelling) twins.

Wow.. now that it years ago.

I had one - CRAP - the only pictures you will find is it upside down

You could stop them from rolling over by keeping the COG low - for instance not mounting the speedo and RX on top of the batteries. Also using shorter shocks at the front helped. The biggest problem was that you couldn't easily mount an anti-roll bar on it thus causing the grip roll issue.

Great concept though :)

i Had one it was fab!!!! it was Doddy's old one i belive

Kopite

it was just the narrow rear end. why you'd build a car that wasn't using the full width allowance is bizarre! stability stability stability

the Losi hydra-drive was ace though

It was as wide as an RC10 though wasn't it?? I'll have to measure my one compared to an RC10 - I'm sure it wasn't far out...

TOP Models are still going but they are now based in Rhuddlan on the way to Rhyl - Believe that Brian Stacey sold the business to a fella called Dave who is heavily into Nitros. Be very surprised if you could get hold of anything for a AYK or Hybrid anymore.

Hey Jamie, Not sure why you think that T.O.P models is heavily into Nitros?, The shop also specialises in electric, They also have old stock available so Dave Vine (The owner ) may be able to help you.
If they havent got it in stock they will get it for you!!

I know they have old kyosho spares for the triumph/optima somewhere!!!!

Back onto the Hybrid discussion, Is it possible to build one from spares/old cars etc????

It is Gaz but i think you would be looking at £700+ to get it original after talking to HKP:cry:

stegger

Yes as gaz said jamie what makes you say he's heavily into nitro:confused: he try's to avoid it if he can "to much messing and dirty" he will tell yeh.
He will push the electric side of the hobby more then anything else.
I'm sure if you ask him about AYK and HYBRID parts or even cars from way back when he may have what your after. His shop is like an aladin's cave...

Well not quite that much.. but I added up what my one cost (every single part is new) and it is nearly £500 :eh?:

I spoke to Dave yesterday, he still has some Hybrid parts left and a "Big Box" of AYK Pro Radiant spares apparently. Also a few old schumacher parts and some kyosho.

Jason, just ring him mate (use Skype from Oz maybe?) the number is in this thread.

Hello -- Yes you're right - T.O.P. Models is in Rhuddlan for the time being - But NO you're wrong about the nitro bit - I sell nitro because I get asked for them, if I could just sell electric cars I would be a lot happier.
I still have a massive box of AYK Pro Radiant spares, and a smaller box of Hybrid parts - plus odds and sods from Schumacher - Losi - Traxxas - Kyosho etc etc etc.
Don't forget T.O.P. Models has been around since 1988 and we have not thrown anything out so if you want retro stuff its worth an e.mail just in case we have what you want.

I used to have this kit for my old rc10, wasn't cheap at the time and from memory it really didn't improve things too much, longer travel associated front shocks were nice, but thats about it. Ended up selling to brother in law who depressing found the car in his loft and sold it at a car boot sale £20 complete.
