Fibre Lyte is good for carbon stuff. 01642 713129 |
ive sanded carbon fibre before using a sanding drum but never cut it Im sure i would use a a series of files, dremel, saw's and hammers to cut its only gonig to be small so souldnt take me to long and its only thin material.
thanks for that dave ill get in contact. A |
sanding drum is even worse ash, it gets in your lungs and all over your skin and you'll go mental and stop being able to spell....... oh, hang on.
|
I used a dust mask and a pair of gogles. The other option would be to cut it out of GRP then glue a thin layer of carbon fibre on each side so like a carbon fibre GRP sandwich.

If that's true, then me and everyone in my rocketry club are dead. Fibreglass is way more dangerous than carbon fibre. Fibreglass leaves GLASS in your lungs, carbon fibre just leaves carbon, which your body is made of anyways :D Carbon fibre dust is no different than charcoal, and guys spend their whole lives in coal mines, breathing the stuff for 12 hours a day, before they get black lung at 40-50. An hour of carbon dust isn't going to make any difference when you spend all day breathing car exhaust full of all kinds of carcinogens. A breather (respirator used when painting cars) and a vacuum will save you from all the evil carbon dust. And the stuff cuts very easily with a hack saw or band saw. |

when i made my mid motor car, i cut the carbon with a dremel type tool and many many circlular discs!!! the dust went everywhere but i had a mask and goggles on.... ive not lost the plot yet either!!!:)
|
I think ill just use a hacksaw and a coping saw then cut it out leaving say a mm off where i want ti then simply sand it to the required line.
