cool, like the citadel miniature.

Used to collect these years ago, had hundreds, just loved painting them.
Had to throw 'em all away though.

It's when you try to shot some rc Cars that you realize how outstanding is the jimmy's work !!!!

Get rid of the overcast sky? Cars always look better in high light. Of course that's not always an option, more of a joke.

Your shutter speed was quite low though. Compare the front springs to the rear springs.

The car would look better, in that particular picture, if it were centered in the frame, not off to the side.

That section of the track looks like rubbish, the old green/brown/dirty astro and whatnot in the background. Try an angle that removes that area, maybe if you stand up, or catch cars that are further out in the turn, or even stand on the inside of the turn.

My main advicde is turn up the shutter speed, though.

Just my opinions.

@ RookieBOB - a good effort, it just looks like you were plain and simple struggling for enough light.

Whilst the shutter speed (1/1250) is fine for freezing the action, your chosen aperture (f5.6) hasn't given enough depth of field to get the whole car from front to back in focus at that focal length. The effect can be quite pleasing so keep experimenting, only in this case it may have looked better if the front of the car, where all the dynamic stuff is happening, rather than the rear was in sharp focus.

Cropping in closer to the car would also get rid of that messy and distracting astro in the background. With a bit more practice and some more forgiving light you'll get the hang of it.

A few less dynamic shots from my weekend, had orders to leave the camera at home but ignored them...

one of my best car pics so far

I spent about 1/2 an hour getting this with a tripod in manual, I dont have photoshop and the few free downloads I've tried seem to crash whenever I try to install them so at the moment all my pics are unedited apart from croping done with nikons free software which comes witrh the d40 camera.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3063/...c1e76897f4.jpg

Bit of an odd one this, I dont usualy have £4k kicking around in used £20's so I thought I'd get a quick pic, I think it would have been a better pic if it was raining outside kind of money cant buy happiness thing.

glypo 03-06-2008 09:53 PM

Very nice photos mate.

If you want a good photoshop equivalent, you need a programme called "GIMP". Stupid name, awesome software. Just as powerful as photoshop, perhaps a little harder to use.... but it's free!

http://www.gimp.org/

It's a multi-platform programme, designed for Linux (where I use it) but works perfectly fine on windows. Make sure you download the windows version though. Great tutorials here: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ including increasing dynamic range, sharpening without noise increase, selective colouring etc.

I doubt it has been, just used a slow shutter speed so the water blurs.

Now those are my kind of pics Robert on the JPS Norton is ace but my fav one is Britton look at the length of that road. Do you have any more of the road racers DJ(rip) Anstey Farquar Mcguiness or Martin Finnigan (RIP). One of my favourite pics of all time was in motorcycle news Martin Finnigan coming through a fast left and the bike bottoms out with the fairing touching the floor at 160 MPH.

I corrected them fully in the first one as well but it looked a bit strange in the top left corner so i backed it off slightly to make the angles look slightly more natural. :P

telboy 11-06-2008 08:46 PM

Cheers dude. Its not as easy as taking photos of Rc, because with rc you have loads of laps and for example, you will know that Lee Martin will clear the tripple every lap, so you can get ready for the photo. With the bmx racing they only come down once so you don't know if they are going to clear the big jumps. So I ended up taking hundreds and hundreds of photos just because you can't predict what each rider is going to do.

A launch at sunrise

I awoke early one morning to watch (from Kennedy Space Center) a rare morning launch. Well it was over cast and I could not see the launch site. I then decided to take my son (8) fishing. We left the house about 5 minutes before the launch (like 5:30 am). We listened on the radio as to how it was a perfect launch, lovely and bright. Well we started across the bridge that takes us off the island toward where we were going to fish, a great little hole you have to canoe to but worth the trip. Well we started north across the bridge and looked to the east and the sky was totally clear almost and you could see the vapor trail and plume from the rocket. This is what it looked like......

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/100_9390.jpg

It looked so wild that we stopped on the bridge and took a photo.
