Your favourite apple?

I've been thinking about this quite a bit today, so I thought I'd ask everyone.

What's your favourite type of apple? Your reasons why would be good too :D

Mine has to be the 'Braeburn' apple.

"The reasons for this success are not difficult to pinpoint. Braeburn has all the necessary criteria for large-scale production: it is fairly easy to grow, produces heavily and early in the life of the tree, it stores well, and withstands the handling demands of international supply chains. What marks it out from the competition is flavour. Braeburn was the first modern apple variety in large-scale production where the flavour was genuinely on a par with the older classic apple varieties."

Look forward to your comments :D

I haven't been thinking about this much, but I agree, Braeburn are the best followed by Royal Gala

Hmmm. The English Russet is indeed an appealing variety of apple and I find it well suited to a winters day, though if I were to give a apple that has offered me support (as I to it) without doubt it has to be a Granny Smith.

Yes - the GS does have its "issues" it can be temperamental to store, is easily damaged and can be a little inconsistent in its output but it is worth it when you get a trully good one - crispy, juicey and sharp enough to make you wince. All the better on a sunny day. The skin must be brright and smooth not exhibiting any waxiness which can cause your bite to slip and coats your flavour buds with a coating that hides the true beauty you can experience.

Personally I like to store my GS`s in the fridge wrapped in newspaper. I have done no blind testing but my granny did it like this!

We only had 'Royal Gala' in the house this morning. What a p**s take. Mushy rubbish. The only Royal that would like it is the queen mum with her false teeth
