ball diff build

Is it possible to over tighten the diff when building it and to damage the top hat washers?

Don't the instructions say fully tighten then back off?

The beval washers can weaken though, if in doubt get a diff rebuild kit

It does yes, but was speaking to someone the other day who said that by doing that actually crushes them and deforms them slightly. Also does anyome anyone know if it is possible to buy just the cone/thrust washers rather than the whole rebuild kit? Thanks

The cone washers are included in U4040 along with a screw, washer and o ring. To my knowledge, you have to buy this pack.

If you think you may have over tightened it to that extent, I'd take a good look at your diff rings as well.

Try it them tell us if they become deformed.

The associated manual said don't over tighten.

You assemble the diff, tighten the diff screw till it bottoms out then back off 90'. If you don't bottom out the screw then when your diff beds in, the conical washers will soften and diff loosen off. (one tip is to apply a smear the black diff on the faces of the conical washers, it helps prolong their life).

Right ok then. Does anyone know if the washers in part number U2573 will fit in the k1 diff?
