Anyone got any pics or tips for bodymount setup when converting a buggy.

Think a front foam bumper setup be good too.

tonydevon 04-08-2016 12:47 PM

body mounts are rather.. hmmm how can I put it, over engineered LOL, only offcuts of ally I could find in the scrap bin LOL

will lighten and then anodise them later :)

had a play round carpark and love the way these handle, awesome fun hanging it out sideways and sliding it around, never driven 4wd cars before, good laugh,

Looks chunky !!!

Be interested to see how the Rc8 runs .. always fancied one

mrspeedy 04-08-2016 06:12 PM

Just in case anyone missed it ...

We'll be running Rallycross at Mendip this weekend 7th, alongside the 4wd regional

tonydevon 04-08-2016 07:03 PM

Its ready for the weekend. Feel free to have a go.
Its a lovely car. Ebay bargain.
Its the better version with lots of alloy parts.
Came with xerun brushless setup and ezrun setup. Loads of tyres spares oils etc.

Been well looked after. 135 quid.
Shell 25 quid
Battery 25 quid.
So for 185 quid im ready to rock n roll and crash lol

Ive gone pretty simple setup.
-1 camber all round
Suspension setup feels nice lol.

Only managed to play round car park.

Not sure how much timing to run on the motor. Have to see how it compares to the others on the straight.

Danosborne6661 05-08-2016 03:02 PM

Looks mega that Tony!

Slightly chunky on the body mounts

Be prepared to order a new body shell too. The BSR shells are made out of a strange material that isn't lexan, they fall apart pretty quickly! It's about the only thing that is a bit weak on the BSR :)

Other than that, it's been a common set-up tweak to lie on the shocks right down, just like a touring car. Perhaps something worth trying on race day!

tonydevon 05-08-2016 11:18 PM

Cheers shell was cheap. Just to get me racing.

What about gearing and centre diff.
Ive gone 19t pinion but now hearing online of 21 and 22 in use :(

Are you locking centre diffs up

Running mild motor timing and punch. Worried it might be bit slow.

Dombrasky 06-08-2016 09:08 AM

Hi
you will have to see how it compares to the others for speed...depends on what the overall gearing of your RC8 is and spur size tbh, also the GRP wheels are a bit smaller than stock buggy so you need to go up 2 or 3
The BSR has a solid centre diff std, but some of the hobaos are locking theres with hot glue or blue tack ive heard

metalmickey0 07-08-2016 09:20 PM

Hey all. I now got a Bsr. Bought dans old one and getting it race ready. Just need body posts. Going to run kit shell til I can afford a new one lol.

Danosborne6661 08-08-2016 08:23 AM

What a meeting yesterday! The final was a text book rally cross race, any of us could of had the win between the top 4! The joker laps played into it perfectly.

My RB convert was going better towards the end, hopefully shows you can buy an affordable buggy and convert it quite easily. I'll get some photos up soon to show how I've converted it.

mrspeedy 08-08-2016 03:01 PM

Great days Rallycrossing !!!

Top 5 in the A final were covered by just 5 seconds in the end !!!

you quick guys are great to watch, sorry dont know names but the orange one with bull on the side was ballistic, what a beast, so glad that it was easy zero marshalling with you lot as it gave chance to watch.

mines apart for some work LOL, center diff was open, all 3 diffs empty, yup totally empty.... some blutac and thick oils on way in there LOL

is there any UK suppliers of shells or do I need to buy from Italy?

Danosborne6661 10-08-2016 01:51 PM

I've locked my centre diff with Shoe goo Tony

mrspeedy 10-08-2016 08:34 PM

That my rocket you were watching ... !! Simon BTW

Yours looked pretty good for first time out ... its amazing what difference changing diff oils can make ... 5000 in the back and 20,000 up front is a good starting place ...

Body choice isn't great from UK shops TBH ..

Rally Mondeo is popular and cheap - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Protoform-...QAAOSwxehXPaY4

This is what I run .. not cheap but does seem quite tough ...

or you can look here for some more unusual rally bodies ..

I was watching some of the heats and finals last Sunday
Really interested in this class !

Looking for something different over the winter
Will you be running a winter series for this class ?

mrspeedy 15-08-2016 03:42 PM

I can't imagine a better class to run over the winter tbh ..

so yeah we will definitely be running through the winter ... bring on the snow

Danosborne6661 18-08-2016 09:20 AM

The more weather, the more rallying

These 8th cars are certainly built to take it!

So, some general guidelines for the class to get us up and running ... and this is only guidelines mind !!

We want to follow full sized Rallycross RX as close as much as possible as it really is a great class .. ie. big power, low grip, short multi surface tracks and lots of proper racing !!!

So the race format will be four qualifying rounds of 6 lap races, using the round by round system, with 3 rounds to count and 1 drop score. This will give points in each round that count towards the main finals.

All starts, will be mass starts, (yay old school !!) comprising 2 rows of 3 cars, and these will be switched each qualifier ...

Finals ... not worked that out yet but most likely a slightly longer race than qualifying, so maybe 8 laps .. and depends on the track ..

.. and we'll also have the "joker" lap ...

Car specs -

Shaft drive rallycross style buggies converted to run on mostly tarmac tracks .. no belt drives .. 4wd recommended !!

Cars must run rally or rallycross style bodies .. or generic types like the Hyper GT rally or Protoform rally bodies ..

Max 3 cell lipos ... there was some questions about whether we have to run hardcase lipos but the word from the BRCA is that soft case lipos are OK, we would recommend some extra layers of heatshrink on these for some extra protection ..

Motors - sensored or sensorless , max 2400kv .. these are bonkers fast so not sure why anyone would want anything faster !

Tyres - after some research, our ideal spec tyre, is the GRP Revo cut slick rally tyre in S4 compound. These look realistic and give good grip when they get up to temperature but are still slideable ... and are said to last a whole season !!!!!

If you only have kit tyres .. its not a problem .. run what you have for the time being ..
Hopefully our local model shop RC Octane will be able to stock tyres for us in the near future ..

Think that's it ... please post or message me if you need any info or have ideas ..

Below are the club race dates that we'll be running Rallycross on during the summer -

15th May

19th June

3rd July

17th July

21st August

4th September

18th September

Some of you might have seen me playing around with this on the onroad track over the last couple of months ...

and at the weekend of the 4wd regionals there was a LOT of interest in the car.... and several guys talking of buying cars and running some Rallycross RX style meetings using a shortened version of the the onroad track.

So I thought I'd share some links for cars, tyres motors etc .. and see if we can get this off the ground !!

Evening all,

Just a quick update for you guys as there seems to be a mistake on the championship dates....

Round 6 - 21st August

Round 7 - 4th September - Final round with trophy presentation.

The weekend previously advertised for the final round (18th Sept) is the Mendip Masters of the Astroturf weekend and will only have pre paid entries for 2wd and 4wd 1/10 off road classes.

Apologies for the mix up.

mrspeedy 24-08-2016 02:34 PM

Thanks Matt .. I've updated the original race day list
