racing in essex on southend tarmac track
 

so after reading the thread about running off road on tarmac. it has been suggested that southend model club have an ideal circuit. it does run touring cars but its not an aveage touring car track. realy its the old off road track with has been smoothed and tarmac laid so the underlations and bumps are still there :thumbsup:

Last raced offroad when southend outdoor track was offroad.
Have been racing touring (boring) cars and micro's the last five years but got back into offroad this summer racing at mid essex offroad club with the boys.Totally got the bug now for offroad boring car sold to fund the buggies.
Racing at epr tommorow (weather permitting) so to get some track time with the big boys.
Regarding southends club they race at barleylands on a tuesday night now big hall have been racing the micros up there, ideal indoor venue for the 10ths aswell.
They race on carpet but we have some ramps that we use for the micros just to get some air time more than adequate for the 10ths aswell.
Anybody with a buggy micro or tenth come along and race more the merrier.
See you up there doors open 6.30 racing starts 7.30 8ish.

I'd probably come down if nothing else was on. I can confirm from my last TC race, there its definetley still Bumpy :P

well with a little free time today as i didnt go epr missed out there wot a wally!! i made a 5 min trip to the southend track and see ray freestone explained about this thread and he said yup no problem.:thumbsup:

they race every sunday 10 - 3 with 3 qualifiers and a final.

the club will not be open on 24th of oct 28th of nov 19th of dec
and with epr 1st weekend of the month and stotfold 3rd weekend
couldnt do them either

idearly 2nd and 4th weekend without clashing with there dates

now time to decide when everyone is free and pick our date :)

wouldnt have a clue on tires so it will be a bit of a learning curve on that front

Would it make sense to say Schumacher Mini Spike or similar only for tyres? Could properly wear out the ones left over from off-road races and get true value for money...

Only say this as other tyres (foams, PL, Losi rubber, etc) would be better but using these wouldn't really be fair.

I know its only a laugh but think that this would make sense. We all must have a bag of tyres that are too worn for anything else...

i can see where your coming from matt and its one of surfaces that we need a certain tyre. i think its gonna be along the line of kit tyres prolines and ribs as was said its kinda like racing on hard pack clay. as with mini spikes i dont think the profile of the tyre will be up to much. its gonna be a trial and error thing and only time will tell

Up at coastal model car club in ipswich we race buggies on the touring car track through the winter, rain or shine, even snow a couple of times. :thumbsup:

The best tires to use are minipins in the dry. They need to be well scrubbed so they are just slicks. Nothing a few burn outs can't sort out.

In the wet ballistic buggy spikes are the things to have. They don't last long though.

The Southend track will be awesome for buggies especially over the jump.

I'd be up for it - for sure but please dont get totally anal about controlling tyres - why not let people run what they've brung and if the need arises in the future, then control them if need be.

TBh we we raced on tarmac at ashford mcc the following worked,
worn full spikes, mini pins or the old square blocks .
Ill pop to brooklands during week an do a bit of testing an post results

The proline and losi 'dirt tyres' roll about far to much on the side walls and don't provide anywhere near as much grip as the schumacher and ballistic tyres.

so having a look at the the dates 14th of november is the only one in the next month or so and if we enjoy it see where the calander next free date is

so 14th of november is when i propose we all head down to the southend track :thumbsup:

as for the tyres wouldnt even dream of saying u can only use this and not that. obviously some are going to be better than others and i certainly wont be using the prolines!! but scumacher do do some blocks and ties (shameless plug :lol:) similar to the yankie tyres.

its all in the name of fun and a bit of extra racing a bit closer to home :thumbsup:

so tell your friends in the essex area to did them 10th buggies out

Maybe someone should try and speak to CML to see if you could get a load on the cheap as they're hardly used much here, i guess they'd have to try and bring them in specifically?

best tires i have ever used on tarmac were BK bars in red!! or JC barcodes! awesome! wheelie city!

We have stacks of those already in stock if anyone needs them, most popular tyre we sell to bashers etc who run buggies on tarmac... It is a standard stock item for CML too.
