Optima mid restoration

Hi I used to race optima mids in the day nearly 30 year ago ,I loved the cars so I have bought one for myself to restore to pristine condition
Can anyone please give me any advice or help on best places for buying and finding parts
I will keep up to date on progress and then I have to decide whether to run it or just sit on mantle piece and admire
If I run then I need to decide whether to run brushed or brushless
Already can't decide whether to spray shell old fashioned as they were in the day or to do a fancy design on it
Thanks in advance to anyone who gets in touch

1st thing i'd say is try ebay international, much better than ebay uk:thumbsup:

There's an ebay shop in the states called Optima Heaven who should be able to help you out

If your going to run it in brushless then go for a 10t or 13t but nothing too fast as youll kill the gearbox. Ebay worldwide plus starting either by Kyosho or vintage kyosho should give you a good list to search through. Also designs were pretty tastey then as they are now so wont look out of place.

I restored mine last year and it was a real pleasure to do. It had been sat in my parents barn for 25 years uncovered so it was in a very sorry state. I stripped everything into components and ended up replacing half of the car (mainly down to me being fussy) but it was virtually as good as new by the time I'd finished. I fitted modern electrics with a 10.5 Orca brushless motor and the whole car's been bullet proof. I've raced it at some big indoor meetings against the modern 4wd buggies and it goes well considering it's nearly 30 years old. A couple of people helped me out on here with parts and the rest came from ebay. It can take time to find the parts you need but that's part of the fun

This is what I've done with mine. I got the thinnest hard cased stick type Lipo I could find. It was a little bit too thick to slide into place, so i just shimmed the top deck with a couple of small washers. It's now a snug fit but it works a treat!!
