Avante 2001

Hey folks,

Noticed this on the 'bay, do you think this is worth the BIN? Is it an original chassis? Thinking of getting it as a project...?

been looking at this and comparing it to pics online, this doesnt look right for an oringinal avante right? not just the wheels and the body..., the plastic bits where there should be metal and so on

any one able to shed any light?

If I remember correctly the Avante 2001 was the cheap FRP chassis version of the Egress. Those pics look like they have the Hi-Cap damper hop-ups which weren't standard on the 2001. Best bet would be to have a look at www.tamiyaclub.com as they will have all the info you need.

Yes they are Hi Cap dampers, the original shocks were black plastic. The Hi caps are the same as were fitted to the Egress as std.

Here is my 2001 with the hi caps

EDIT - This is how it should look in the correct paint and correct tyres/wheels

When you say original - do you mean this one ? - Im thinking that you are confusing the Avante Mk1 with the less desirable Avante 2001. If you are after a Mk1 then tidy ones do come up on Ebay every now and then but prices are getting silly.

yeah - they are going for silly prices now, gonna have to save up the hard earned!

The Avante 2001 is somewhere between the original Avante, and the Vanquish. All 3 cars are great, but the Vanquish and Avante 2001 would make the best runners. For the price I would say this car is a good deal. It comes with Tamiya's first hop-up part the 53001 Dyantech 01R motor, Hop-up shocks and the much sought after CPR P100-f ESC/Receiver combo. The brushes, 19T armatures and hop-up 17T armatures are still easily found on eBay, so rebuilds are not a problem.

The wheels are very expensive Egress black wheels with newer Tamiya spire spike tires. These tires are not a perfect fit for the wheels, which would do better with Tamiya's Hotshot re-release tires (2.0").

This vintage equipment is very fun to drive, but the brakes are not perfect. My runner CPR P160-F (later 160amp model) likes to activate the brakes on it's own when the car is off-throttle more than a second. It's still very good for a 20yr old piece of electronic history. BTW: They only work with 27mhz radios as well (Futaba is ideal as they were made by them)...

The wing is a Tamiya hop-up parts (I think 53055) that is still available on eBay. The wing mount from the Vanquish is incorrect as the wing should be over top of the shock tower. The proper wing mount parts can still be found on eBay from time to time, but it's not a big deal.

Here's some of my Avante based cars:

I just noticed that this car also has the hop-up front & posi-joint universal shafts. These cost around $100 for the full car set. They are extreamly nice and feature universal joints at both the inboard & outboard connection. This is possible cause this car's driveshafts run in-line with the lower control arm.

Now I'm wondering if he's got the hop-up front & rear ball diffs as well?

It's even got the Hop-up Carbon fiber Ball-Race steering. You really can't go wrong here...
