Losi 2.0 Conversion
 
Hey,

I just bought a Losi 2.0 Buggy and intend to convert it.

Am thinking a
Neu 1512 2.5d/f Sensorless Brushless Motor

with
Castle Creations Mamba Monster controller V3

Going to run 4s Lipos. Not sure which yet. Australians rule require Hard case roar approved.

Was planning to buy the Losi conversion kit.

Is there anything I am missing?

Or Should I not buy any of these?

Pics of mine are on here, personally after quite a bit of head scratching & lots of helpful advice i went for... a neu castle 1512 1.5y 1800kv motor, mamba monster v3 speedo,zippy flightmax 5 cell 30c 5000 mah lipo, when i bought my motor & speedo from rc monster they were not available as a combo as the motor is relitively new so that ups the price a little
i used the Losi conversion kit, the battery tray seems a little high to me but it doesnt seem to effect the handling & on the losi tray there is a step to mount your speedo.
im pleased as punch with mine :thumbsup:

Problem is here is Australia at the moment we are limited to 4s lipo for some reason.

I will be going exact same as yours just got to decide on motor. It's between 1800 & 2200. Unless there is one in between.

Except battery. Not to sure on what 4s to get.

Have done so much reading and changed my mind so many times but I think with Castle I will be safe.

I can do better than that for a hardcase. Look at Thunderpower's hard case packs. Available in various capacities and at up to 50C continuous. They are quite pricy, but they are very good.

As far as the rest goes, I've got no suggestions - you've chosen well.

The Losi battery box isn't that great in my opinion - the batteries sit too high, but otherwise I cannot fault the choices.

No becauase the battery you have posted is only a 2 cell lipo you will need at least a 4 cell lipo or 2x2cell lipos

To do 20 minutes on 2S you'd need a capacity of around 15000mAh.

3S, around 11000mAh.

4S, around 8000mAh.

5S, around 5500mAh.

6S around 4000mAh.

I disagree, with those you'll get more than 20 minutes very easily. I've made more than 20 minutes with 3S 8000mah and a Castle-Neu 2200Kv(not the best for runtime), racing.

2S for 1/8th buggies is too low though, more than 10000mah packs needed for 20 minutes and temps could be too high....

It depends on the track. So far, I've only raced on rough, large tracks, which inherently use more power. So I think that my estimates are conservative. Not only that, they are just estimates. The 5S 5500 I measured myself (though I could probably get away with 5S 5000) to 23 minutes regularly, but headroom is good in case you're driving like a numpty.

To be fair, 2200KV on 3S would be considered a 'low power' set-up. 4S on 2200KV is more normal.

I put 4600mah into my 5000mah 5S pack after the 20min final on sunday. 46sec lap times

Yes, track and driving style are the key, but if you choose the right motor-voltage-capacity it's easy to clear 20 minutes even if you're not a smooth driver.

It is "low power" but gearing makes it fast enough to beat the nitro guys :p

I know that, some guys in the US are making 20 minutes on 4S 4000mAh - no idea how though. Guess it's through a combination of short laps, small tracks and really smooth surfaces.

My 8T conversion will do 20 minutes on the track using 4S 6500mah Hyperion pack, only if my LVC is dropped to 3v per cell though. Definitely does teach you to ensure you keep traction and stay smooth, no point roasting amps and sitting there spinning up 4 tyres that look like pizza cutters!! :)

Yeah, I've got some learning to do on the smooth driving, but I am getting there.

As I've said though, the smoothness of the track makes a big difference (look at run times of US vs UK). I race on a particularly rough track, so my run-time estimates are conservative. Then again, that's why we have a forum so everyone can post their point of view - average all the totals, and you're probably near the correct figure.

I think a slipperential helps, but I'm really keen to try to discipline myself and learn to drive it right without one. All about being smooth ont he throttle finger....still ruddy find myself blipping sometimes...a carry over from running nitro cars for a while?!!! Grrr.....
