SC5M VS 22SCT 3.0

Hi all,

I'm considering swapping my SC5M for the new 22SCT 3.0. I'm currently running the SC5M on high grip astro. It drives well but I'm not very impressed with the build quality. Lots of play in various assemblies and overall a cheap feel to many parts.

So I'm considering swapping to the 22SCT 3.0. Can anyone share any help or experience with this? Is the build quality better?

Thanks!

While I do not have any experience with any of these two SCTs, I used to have the B5M, the 22 3.0 and the T5M. The 22 3.0 felt way better than the B5M, probably due to its modern steering set-up and one-piece aluminium chassis. That being said, it was way slower than my YZ-2 on high grip due to its immense traction it generates, which is why I used it as a wet car. Built quality was really good overall, although I did not like the steering plastics too much.
If my experience with the buggies is any judge, the 22 SCT 3.0 will most likely be a step forward from the SC5M. However, it does not come with a laydown gearbox and as far as I know is not prepared to accept one right out of the kit. If you are willing to invest in an exotek gearbox or keep your fingers crossed that TLR will release a moulded laydown gearbox, the 22 SCT 3.0 will be the truck you are looking for.

I have a friend fitting an Exotec gearbox to his new 22 SCT. I think he is running it tonight, more to follow.

22 SCT 3.0 with Exotec was wicked fast this evening on med grip carpet. Same pace as a Ten SCTE v3.0. On high grip this truck will bring the fight to the laydown PR trucks.

Thanks! Thats a good comparison actually. It gives me more confidence. It sounds like I will need the laydown gearbox though.

I did a few laps with the car Garth's talking about it and it felt very buggy like, just with a little more chassis roll.

Sounds very positive. Any chance of finding a setup sheet?

I've got a photo but I'll have to ask before posting. I've got no idea of that setup he was using. It was only his second outting so I can't imagine he'd have changed much from kit.

Ok thanks. As always with SCT in the UK setup sheets are hard to come by...

david85williams 17-02-2017 11:41 AM

Is the Exotek laydown box the same as the 22 3.0 buggy?

alex97 17-02-2017 12:17 PM

Think so

Thomas Schwarz, our regional TLR team manager, is on facebook. Maybe he can help you out a bit. Although SCT has declined over the last few years, it is still going pretty strong in the NRW-Offroad-Cup, and most clubs in the region have switched to astroturf meanwhile.

Bugger.

Setup was mainly kit build but AE Grey truck springs front and rear with Corally oils 500cst front and 425cst rear. 50k oil in the new TLR gear diff.

Thanks. Very helpful. No anti roll bars then?
