Degreasing Chassis

Hi All,

I had an issue at the weekend that is a new one on me....need some advice please.

Picked up a new buggy last week and degreased the chassis using ‘brake cleaner’, as I always do.
I fitted the chassis skin but it wouldn’t stick!!!!
I warmed up the second skin AND the chassis and it stuck ok, but come the second race on Sunday it peeled off mid-race.........

The servo tape under the speedo also failed so i’m wondering whether the previous owner polished (!!) the chassis or.....?!

What should I be cleaning the chassis with, petrol, thinners etc.?

Thanks for reading.

I wash my Nitro Buggy with petrol. Then wash it afterwards with just water to get the residue off

Better off using isopropyl alcohol or lighter fluid, leaves no residue at all

If you want it to be 100% clean use preclean you can get it from a car paint supplyer, it's what they use in the bobyshops before paining

Paraffin is great for degreasing

Most automotive brake cleaners contain oil to prevent corrosion of the discs. It's not an issue for cars/motorbikes/etc as it evaporates off extremely quickly at normal operating temps.
It can cause an issue on MTBs as temperatures can be much lower.

And stickers won't stick either........

I use an oil free electrical contact cleaner.
Basically IPA in a spray can.

I would be careful using some of the suggestions because it could remove the anodising from your chassis

I personally clean mine with brake and clutch cleaner with no problems like you've mentioned. Just make sure it's all gone before you start sticking things to it. Brake cleaner's pretty good at evaporating quickly usually.
