fast car insurance?

Any recommendations on performance car insurers? LLoyds were rubbish and the quote from Adrian Flux was already 1200 quid cheaper (500 quid of that being the tracker that LLoyds insisted upon).

Apart from Flux I've not run anyone else yet - gonna do it on Saturday when I get some time as I've been busy. So - does anyone have some recommendations?

I know its not a mega performance car but I found Admiral good.

The were very good for a one off payment but crap if you wanted to pay by installments.

The car is a Celica 190 VVTI and I added uprated alloys and exhaust as extras.

Come to £430

Lot beeter than anyone else I could find.

Hi Jimmy, you could try Footman James, they do specialised insurance for sports ,kit cars and the motor trade.

Brentacre served me well when I had my mk2 golf. They didn't pull my pants down too much when I told them there was a TT engine under the bonnet with 300bhp.

Now I drive a 5dr diesel (Slammed on 18's mk4 golf) I'm covered by priviledge

Depending on your no claims, Privilege have been great for me on all my cars.....

I'm 27, 9 years NCB and pay £320 for the Megane Sport (225) and my Wife pays £290 for a Mk4 Golf GTi at 25.

I sort out insurance for myself and the rents on the net, and sticking your details on www.moneysupermarket.com and www.confused.com never seems to fail.

Im insured on a CRX vtec for less then 500squids and im only 21 :woot:

My mum got insured on a 1.6 Punto Mk2 for something like £130, and shes old.. but not that old lol

Cant even remember who they're through but give the websites suggested a try.

Ben

Depending on the car - take a look on the owners forums and see who they recommend.

Because it'd be a second car - I would have zero no-claims bonus. I don't want to take my 9-10 years of ncb or however much it is off my smart car and pay more for that. Apparently I have to build up a new no-claims-discount if I want to have 2 cars - I didn't realise that.
LLoyds wouldn't touch a 'quick' car with zero no claims - even though I've already got a car with 9-10 years ncb with them! nuts. Never had an accident and have no points on my license. Oh and I'm 36 in a couple of weeks.

I've seen a couple of specialist insurers on an enthusiast website - I guessed being specialist they might be MORE expensive but I guess that's not the case really.

MatJohnson 14-10-2009 12:51 PM

Dunno if their is a mrs jimmy, but could you not have one car in her name, one in yours?

Obviously this argument is useless if there is none :)

eda 14-10-2009 01:00 PM

If Vicky has been named on your insurance you can transfer your full no claims discount to a 2nd vehicle in her name. We did this 5 years ago with AXA Insurance.

Mrs.Vicky uses her car for work, and I'd still want to use my smart car for most of the commuting to my work - and wet weather / snow etc. Keep the new nippy car in a garage and bust it out on nice days basically.
So even if she's already got her own car, with her own ncb, I would be able to use my ncb with her on my nippy car? or... I'm getting confused, it's quite complex haha.

What was that a free AA van for RC, that explains your ride :woot:

Nige 14-10-2009 01:29 PM

Jimmy, it might work out cheaper if you use your NCD on the car with the highest insurance group. And as it's your second car, restrict the mileage and join the owners club as they might have be able to offer favourable insurance deals.

What car is it?

bigred5765 14-10-2009 01:35 PM

admiral multicar and use ur ncd on both

Yeah as someone else says, it may still be cheaper to apply the NCD to the quicker car or at least put it on a Limited mileage policy?

What car is it out of interest??

Admiral do their multi-car policy, plus surely if you have two cars in your name only they must realise you can only be driving one at a time so two cars on one policy should be possible?

MatJohnson 14-10-2009 01:44 PM

Just don't wang it on multicar or it wipes out your NCB

jimmy 14-10-2009 01:48 PM

That's what I thought - it seems insane that lloyds wouldn't take my perfect record and 9-10 years ncb into account. Adrian Flux seemed to in some way, and said they could do it as a bonus or discount or something - I wasn't really listening  but the net effect was that it was cheaper with flux and zero ncb than lloyds WITH 10 years ncb. I have to say - I like the sound of it that way, since like has been said if the worst happens and I wang it into a hedge it won't effect my ncb on my smart (tho would effect the premium of course).

It's an Elise

Nige 14-10-2009 01:55 PM

According to this http://www.elises.co.uk/features/insurance/index.php if you join a car club your Adrian Flux policy quote might go down even further.

MALLET 14-10-2009 02:56 PM

Jimmy as Nige has said stick with Adrian Flux they'll give you a 3 years ncb next year and money off with being in a club.

I had a brand new Dodge Ram Pick up a few years ago and it cost me £632 fully comp and thats with my Wife on as a named driver and she had only just passed her test.

All my vehicles are with Adrian Flux, I would not go anywhere else. Alfa with 3 other named drivers £345, Land rover 90 with 3" lift and supe'd up engine £185 and a monkey bike £55
