B5M Hopups
 

I'm hoping to get a B5M soon and want to know what hop ups are people using, any advice appreciated

When you getting one?

Not found a practical use for any of the blue bits yet im always debating what to do with mine and find im happy with it as it is for now.

I would look into chassis protection thats all i needed to do and get good flat sensor wire to go under battery tray.

Also try to use velcro for the shell them rear body mounts are pants.

There's a guy on here selling untrays, there a must for me. I've just ordered a new shell as the stock is very thin and I'm sure its going to crack. I was thinking about getting the b5m to b5 conversion just to see what its like. I might try the alloy steering rack just to add some colour to front.

Get the blue metal rear hinge pin brackets and inserts...takes all the play out of the rear wishbones and look great..!also , the metal front hinge pin bracket...

Was thinking how to reduce that play, so the the hinge pin brackets take out the wishbone play do they ?

Have you got a part number for the rear brace?

They certainly did on mine....it is 100% better...

You will need both C and D braces and their nylon inserts... Just look at your favourite shop ( MB Models ) under B5 spares..

AS91524 - FT Aluminum Arm Mount (D) needs inserts to match AS91389 - Arm Mount Inserts (D)

In my experience it doesn't take all the play out as I still had to shim my B5M to remove most of the play, I think it was 0.3mm shims each side of the wishbone. The B5r has less play on the rear arms.

Adding the optional 3x8mm grub screws will remove a lot of play from the rear hubs and castor blocks/steering arms. The hard parts have a lot less play than the stock plastic parts at least on the front but not tried them on the rear of either car.

From what is being reported in the states the alloy steering is mainly being used to add some weight up front. The alloy rear hub carriers add the option of tuning the ballstud height and are said to be worth getting as most of the US team drivers seem to use them but good luck finding any in stock.

The alloy shock mounts are worth a look as the plastic ones are hollow with a 3mm plain nut to fix the screw to the tower so the screws can bend in an impact.

Has anyone tried the B5 straight front arms on their B5M? Those combined with the matching front tower are supposed to make steering more consistent.

I built mine from the off with B5 arms/tower and it feels fine, doesn't do anything unexpected the B4/C4 had straight arms and worked fine. I need to test it with stock front tower and arms at some point though.

The B5 though is great out of the box it needs a bit of weight up front as most rear motor buggies do but I will likely run this more than my B5M for club racing - mostly indoor mixed carpet/slippy floor. Balance was really good with no more tweaking than putting some tyres on it that would work.

I think the M needs some more set up work to get it right for me but it worked well enough on very bumpy astro at the weekend I just need to test a few changes to get it where I'd like.
