The Plough is a delightful, 16th-century country pub, which enjoys a quiet location set back from the main road, yet within easy reach of the main transport links. The quaint building is of a traditional, local style with very ornate, original window-panes. There is a well-maintained, private garden outside which is great for al fresco drinking and eating in the summer!!

Address: Leigh Road, Hildenborough, Nr. Tonbridge, Kent TN11 9AJ

Located directly on the B245, just a couple of miles northwest of the centre of Tonbridge

How to find the Plough pub: - If you are coming from Tonbridge, head for Hildenborough (B245). You will see Leigh & Penshurst signposted on the left hand side opposite the Flying Dutchman pub. Take this left turn (once on this road DO NOT take the first right signpost for Leigh), keep going straight ahead. Under railway bridge the road will narrow but keep going. The road can be a bit narrow and windy. There is a sharp bend to the right with another lane going straight signposted for the Powder Mills - follow the road to the right and shortly after this the Plough. The car park entrance is just before the pub.
If you're coming from north of Sevenoaks along A21, take exit off A21 for Sevenoaks and Hildenborough and head for Hildenborough (B245). You will eventually (about 2 or 3 miles down that road) see the Flying Dutchman on the left with a road off to the right signposted Leigh/Penshurst. NOTE: There is a road to the right before this one which is signposted for Leigh and Penshurst but please make sure you keep going until you see the Flying Dutchman.

What is the tyre for sunday

Gnarly Old Dog 16-05-2012 01:26 PM

AFAIK there is no control tyre for the SE Region.
Given the amount of rainfall we've had recently, I'd say anything that floats might be worth a punt :woot:

Seriously - Schuey Yellows have always been a safe bet if its dry - though the track might turn towards a green or a silver later on.
BB minispike Greens will feel safe - especially whilst there is grass on the track but if the surface gets stripped, they might begin to struggle although if it's wet, they might be a better all round tyre???

I ran Losi Silvers there last year in 2WD (yes they are commercially available) and whilst the bump absorption was first class, they lacked the sidebite that a Schuey tyre offered so ultimately, there was very little in it in terms of actual pace.

Much will depend on what the rain gods choose to do between now and Sunday I fear:cry:

Hi Andy

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't the brca reginals sanctioned events and if so rule 23.11 should apply. And this rule was also adopted when we raced at Kent last time.

please clarify what rule is none of us want to waist money on the wrong tyre

Stu

Gnarly Old Dog 16-05-2012 02:34 PM

Hi Stu,
You're asking the wrong guy.

Like I said in my post - as far as I know there has been no control tyre in the SE region until now - at least not at the meetings I've attended but I'm not a BRCA official so I can't answer you I'm afraid - I'm just a member like you - but one who had to look up rule 23.12 to find out what you were referring to:blush:

I was just posting up a response to help a fellow racer

If you're concerned -its probably best to ask Steve for clarification.

But lets just postulate that 2 control tyres are ruled on - just like at the Nationals - but there's still no ruling that limits the number of pairs being run per day or the compounds of said tyres. (Or at least there isn't at the national BRCA sanctioned events.)
I have to carry Schumacher Yellows, Green and Silvers at every national now along with BB Greens, Whites and even Pinks (in some cases). And even then - I couldn't legislate for 1 run per set of tyres last weekend like the fast guys were doing.

discostu 16-05-2012 02:50 PM

The question was generalised for the answer as you know I don't do big events and myself and others would like to keep cost down but also be competitive

And the info you supplied is spot on.

Over to you Steve

Also steve what is the fitting for the non personnel transponder and can we mount in the wing and assuming if it fails or comes off/out will our laps be counted manually.

Stu

Gnarly Old Dog 16-05-2012 02:59 PM

Fully understand Stu - keeping costs down and being competitive can be a tricky balancing act.

I'd expect Schuey Yellows to be the most popular tyre in the dry and probably a close call between a BB green or a Schuey green in the Wet.

I think a BB Green has a wider cross-over usage spectrum than the Schuey Green - meaning that the BB Green could still work in the dry or the wet whereas the Schuey Green may be only a wet tyre.

But if the top surface disappears like it has done in the past, a Schuey Green can suddenly come back into their own in the dry as they have done at other grass venues and now, the Schuey Silver could also prove very effective in those conditions.

It does my head in that's for sure...

Gone are the days when I could run a set of Hotshot blocks for an entire season at my local club...

TR32 in the current weather?! ;-)

brookie 16-05-2012 11:43 PM

Just got in from work,:wtf: but thought it best I quash the speculation before it gets out of hand (again!).

Rule 23.11 has been quoted but the often missed part of the 2012 BRCA Handbook is this:

'2.2 The Section Rules are designed to cover all requirements for the National Series and other Sanctioned events. Regional events sanctioned by the Section should run to the same format, but are allowed to use variations of the following rules (which are underlined individually) :-

15.10, 15.12, 15.14, 15.23, 15.29, 15.31, 15.32, 17.4, 17.5, 17.6.1, 18.2, 18.3, 19.1, 20.2, 23.8, 23.9, 23.11, 26.2.'

So rule 23.11 (which is underlined in the handbook!) is allowed to use a Regional variation and in the South East that variation is, as Andy has correctly pointed out, that there is NO tyre rule!

The variation at KMRCC the other year was a very specific set of circumstances that were agreed by ALL participating clubs due to the specialised nature of their surface and DOES NOT apply in these circumstances.
Also many thanks to Andy for his very useful guidance, he has won recently at this venue so it would be worth listening to his advice!

Hand-Out transponders require, I believe, a 6mm hole, would suggest that be in the bodyshell but can be in the wing but safer in the bodyshell! Suggest using a robust bodyclip. In the unlikely event that they fail, there are proceedures to cope with the eventualities of loss or failure.

Oh and another thing.....looks like it is highly unlikely that I will be in attendance this Sunday for a variety or reasons so you'd all best be on your best behaviour for Steve A and Simon C!!!

And so to bed!

Booo! We need you to get the transmitter back out Steve! None of this early racing retirement!

Hopefully you'll be back on track once work quiets down. Can't be all work and no play!

And thanks for the clarification.

discostu 17-05-2012 12:32 PM

Excelent Steve thanks for the clarification as you can appreciate some of us don't race outdoors very often and we are only governed by what the rules and past experience dictate. Thankyou again for clarifictation.

And thanks for the clarification.

Not retired yet James, far too young! Had a cheeky little outing (and win!) at EPR last weekend!
It's just that work is VERY intense at present (most of you know what I'm up to so I won't bore you again!) and we're now into training mode and that inlcudes ALL weekends to a lesser or greater degree so mostly getting days off during the week.....guess I could always have the next round on Tuesday.....and I probably still wouldn't win!

So just to reiterate.....as you know Steve Andrews relies on a very small team to help him with his track and events so any driver that arrives trackside early I would like to offer to help and offer (constructive!) advice and guidance. I'm also hoping that some other drivers (of ALL abilities!) will step up to the mark and assist with Refereeing duties.

See you all again soon (National prep work party at EPR on both 26 & 27 May!)

brookie 17-05-2012 07:35 PM

Shows how long it is since I've used one!
Have been advised the following about AMB Handout Transponders:

'Size of hole required for an AMB 'hand-out' is 8mm or 5/16"'

Hope this clarifies?

simoncook 19-05-2012 04:22 PM

Hi guys, just got back from setting up the track at Plough. Weather today has been great, shame we wasn't running today.

Everything is ready, I've spent most of the day testing the transponders (of which Steve has recently invested some more money into). All are working and giving good readings, so we are ready and set.

Like Brookie said above, anybody who turns up early, help setting up the speakers and other odd jobs will be most appreciated.

Steve A has said he will be there from just after silly'o clock in the morning, but I won't be opening up the track for practice untill approx 8.30!!! - DON'T FORGET!!! THE PUB DOES THE BEST BACON ROLLS IN THE WORLD FACT!!! - GET SOME EARLY TO AVOID DISSAPOINTMENT!!!

Also, there was a wedding today and the pub was having a hog roast - this means awsome pork baguetts at lunch time tomorrow.

Oh one last thing, weather today was quite nice, but where the track is sheltered, it can get very hot - I like the local Kentish ale that they have on currently at the bar, very refrshing.

Think thats everything, see you all tomorrow!!!!

brookie 19-05-2012 08:43 PM

Great effort put in by Steve A, Simon and all the others in the small team at Plough!

Don't forget to offer your support and help if they need it in the morning and also don't forget to step up to the mark and help out with refereeing thought the day and at all levels of competition!

I am sure that Steve and his team will be grateful of ALL the assistance that they will be offered!

Looks like I'll be missing out on both the bacon rolls and the hog roast bagettes then!
See you at the next one or EPR's BIG work party weekend next weekend (26/27 May) or at the EPR National Round 3 the following weekend!

Team No Idea 19-05-2012 08:43 PM

Whoop whoop for the bacon rolls! see you in the morning!

Just like to echo the above, great days racing. Big thank you to Steve Andrews and his very small crew of merry men who put in so many hours of work to get this venue up and running.

Also a big well done to Simon Cook for running the meeting today, spot on job mate

Not a bad turn out at all today, and great to see so many FORCC drivers making the journey outside to play. Big well done to the winners of all their respective finals.

Hope to see you all at the next regional which happens to be ours oops:o

Kind Regards,
Alan

PS. Was great to see the biggest cheer of the day came at drivers briefing when Simon announced that our gracious leader Steve would not be in attendence today, don't worry Steve it was all in jest, we all love you and understand you're a busy man at the moment sorting out some small event that's happening this summer, good luck mate, hope to see you back very soon:thumbsup:
