Phat Bodies Chunk owners?
Well after a long search I am about to step into the realms of owning and running the Phat Bodies Chunk. I am a great fan of mid-motor conversions in 2wd 1/10 so as I am racing mini/micro at present, thought it perfectly logical to grab this tiny monster to thrash indoors through the winter months.
I am aware of some info regarding running experiences, set-up etc over on UkMicrox, but would like to make contact with other Chunk owners who may be able to share some set-up tips etc. I have spoken with the guys over at Phat Bodies who are very helpful...so, anybody running the 2wd side of Microx drop me a line please. Can not wait to run the buggy  |
I had one for the back end of the Micro Nationals last year, even won the last one at Ardent withh it. Fantastic car, I only sold mine on to concentrate on the 1/16th 4wd series at the Nationals.
You going to come along to a few? Telford, Dudley and Hereford all have one so it's not to far! |

stagger ribs?
Anybody seen Schuey stagger ribs in touring car wheel size to fit chunk? Can't find them anywhere? Cheers :)
|
Everyone I've ever seen runs either rally blocks or spikes on their chunks

Our tyre of choice for most tracks on the front are worn narrow mini mins in yellow compound. Nearly always with the inner and outer rows of pins chopped off  |
staggers
Cheers Si,
I will stick with the mini pins I got with the buggy (second hand) I do have rally blocks also, so another option I guess. Cheers :) |
Im still in for 2wd, looking forward to it. Si's new setup is real good, gonna be great fun this year
|
chunks first run
Ran Chunk for first time tonight...needs a few tweaks but was really pleased with it....so much steering ...I can hear the shout of 'Off with the outside rows' :woot: great buggy

I'm running with almost bold tyres up front now, and still steers amazing !!
A good way to bed front tyres in, is to bolt them on the back go do some donuts in the car park  Then if you need more steering add weight just behind the steering bellcranks .... |
weights and screw mount issue

We usually run 10gms on the nose and 10 behind the bellcranks with near bold tyres and it's just perfect ... even lends itself to a little handbraking into corners :D
I do have a few spare link blocks but its an easy fix if your screws are coming loose, just drill the holes a little deeper into the block, a 2.3mm drill bit is required and then screw in, should be fine, mines an original with no problems ..... |
rear mod block issue
Cheers Si, ill grab a spare if I can anyway mate ready for when this re drill gives up. Is everybody running 72 spur with the new gt14b rear arms? Seems there may be a small arm mod needed as at full compression spur taps arms, I did run a 70 spur but I noticed its stated in build thread that base set up has 72? Thoughts please guys
|
I'm still on my original 72t spur and not had any issues with it ..... first I've heard of this TBH ....
|
second run
Ran the Chunk again tonight, when I wasn't being demolished by buggies driving against the race direction....the chunk was lovely, I'm loving the jumps with the buggy and the nose goes exactly where you pont it...(Not always the rite place with my driving :) )
Really looking forward to a much needed rebuild and back on the track for some more 2wd fun....brilliant :) |
front bearing carrier/cast block mod?
Wondering if anybody knows about a different mod for the front hubs/castor blocks...eg one without the capture pins cut down method, somebody mentioned at our local meeting last week that proline do a bearing carrier that has an offset pin that goes straight through? Any info much appreciated...craig,dan or si...any thoughts lads
Cheers :) |

I think the Proline hubs use trailing axles very much like the new AE SC10 front end setup that uses a hex .....
Save your money and look for a In-line setup .... you can't believe how different and how badly the car drives with trailing axles. I spent 2-3 months trying to make these work, and failed !! Do you have the short pin in the bottom and a a screw with a shoulder in the top as in the build thread ? |
I think Gavin who won first national round at broughton runs the pro line front hub set up . His dad Stuart mentioned something when I was talking to him the Saturday night while we were building the track so I didn't take it in properly and never had time to go and have a look on sunday
|
same discussion
No way :) it was Gavins Dad who told me the same I believe! Last wednesday at our midweek club meeting...I'm going to have a mooch at a few options and will feedback to those who may be interested soon. I know the lads have been trying different options over on ukmicrox...need something that won't pop out capture pins on front impacts....or the other answer is to drive better on my part ;)

chunky monkey :)
Well after a frustrating few weeks trying to get the Chunk front end sorted it drove lovely tonight at local club meet. Best its been so far. Only picked up 3rd in the B final but car really was brilliant. Bags of steering, brilliant in the air and best of all no shooting off front caster capture pins :)
The micro 2wd class is so much fun, just wish more manufacturers would get on producing buggys......errr, in fact scratch that, ill stick with the Chunk thank you :D I'm still a fair bit off the main pace but just really enjoying the drive with the Chunk....if you are pondering about getting one built up DO IT. The buggy is wicked. Thanks Speedy and Dan  oh yeah, and hurry up with Chunk 4 please lol |
Sounds like you had a great time running Chunk at your club meet, hassling and beating 4wds with a 2wd chassis is sooooo satisfying, but gotta make sure you remind them when you pass that your only driving a 2wd :woot:
If you want a super tough front end there are some ali steering blocks on 'the bay' not a bad price either - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STRC-Alu-S...#ht_1928wt_910 and Chunk S4 is coming .... slowly  |
chunky fun :)
Quote:
I will defo want the s4 as soon as its done...in fact if you catch me on a Thursday morning after having driven my s3 you might get me to buy 2 lolol ;) |
Another C please Bob?

Im mostly at Telford Hot Trax at present and prob for most of this winter. If you were at Cov Uni then as far as Micro stuff goes you had Dudley and Telford within flinging distance but 1/10 offroad you also had Coventry itself and Kiddeminster fairly close. West Mids is def not buldging with tracks but if you dig around its got a cool scene  Look forward to meeting you at a micro round soon then...if you hear of any other Chunks for sale then I'm ya man...cheers for posting and the help so far |
