Jumps
 

This just looks like some plywood supported by the things we use for the rostrum. Anyone know why we can't do this rather than the hideously inconsistant mat jumps we use now?

I dont see why not
1: easier to set up/take down
2: more predictable
3: easier to marshal
4: we can have more at different points on the track

IMHO the main problem with jumps at YORCC are non-existent/too short/too soft downslopes to the 'features'.

Landing on mats and getting an inconsistent bounce, or flat onto the gym floor is for ****s.

So basically we just need to find out the max internal size of the trailer we would have available to store the ply in?

I haven't been to YORCC for a while, but I'm sure there used to only just be enough 'things we use for the rostrum' (benches) for the rostrum itself? If this is still the case, what would you use instead as a rostrum??

That's true Matt, but we don't have to use them on the jump - there are other things we could make use of.

Robin, YOU are not supposed to jump them, your CAR is supposed to jump them, DOH! maybe thats where your going wrong. Its only going to end in tears:woot:

the main problem is they build 1 big jump that is rubbish they be better building more smaller jumps

Wasnt this discussed before? And the problem was that the wood what we do have for the jumps (used for the bigger events) is in the other trailer, and will not fit in our regular trailer. There was talk (I think) about chopping it down to fit but thats the last I heard.

Nothing wrong with the big jump in front of the rostrum in my opinion, although a few smaller ones dotted around could be nice to. Not sure i subscribe to the whole big air big distance deal. I know its a buggy club but that doesn't make it a stunt arena.

Hey guys, want an outsiders opinion? No? Well, unlucky, you're getting it anyways.

The big jump at the club last weekend was just about right for me and my ickle Rat, if i drove properly and maintained the speed through the final corner, i didnt have any issues landing on top, if i fluffed it, i semi stalled and lost time. I dont see the need for a bigger jump, and lets face it, the track has to cater for everyone and not just those people with 4wd and huge brushless systems, even us monkeys and our 540 motors need some love.

When i raced motocross, the best tracks were often those that were technically challenging, not the ones with the biggest air, how much skill does it take to wind up the throttle and fly as far as possible? Not much at all, any monkey can do that, but it takes a little more skill and finesse to land perfectly on the downslope, judging your speed and take off angle correctly. If motocross taught me one thing, its that going big is NEVER the fastest way around a track. Bigger risk = bigger crash and almost always more time lost...

While I think a little more air around the track would be good, Maybe even a set of whoops down a straight, but lets not forget its a temporary track and someone has to lug all the bits there and home, and if the stuff doesnt fit in the trailer, then i guess we have to make the best of what we have.

I dont think its the case for making bigger jumps, we want jumps to be easier to navigate and be more consistant. The problem is, its hard to make a decent downslope with the gym mats we are using at the moment, so the landings zone can sometimes be tricky. The plywood sheets would give a better take off and landing, making it easier for all drivers. I for one sometimes dread going over the big jump and I have probably built it:D

The jump on Saturday was spot-on and everyone made it over it. The main reason: the kick-up wasn't used.

Just a thought.
