Foam inserts???
 

What foam inserts do people tend to use in 1/10th off road when running schuey minispikes and ballistics??

Ive always used standard schumacher blue inserts but wondered what other people use??

I know a number of racers using Mr O inserts but which ones??

Have always run the Mr O inserts since they became available and find them consistently good and don't seem to disintegrate like some others.

I always run the extra wide one in the rear on any tire other than a schumacher silver or Dboot when the chubby insert seems to work best. Then a firm front for both 4wd and 2wd.

Hi JCB I've just had a look at these inserts, have you tried the dual density ones. What situation do you think they'd be good?

Mr O for me... 45mm ones for schuey tyres, 40mm for balistics

I'm a big fan of Mr O inserts, between the options there is always a 'right one' and they're very reasonably priced.

Most often now I'm on a 45mm blue/medium rear insert and a firm/firm chubby on the front depending on grip levels. I'm still learning with this but in 4wd I use a firm on grass but a firm chubby on astro. The reason being I think I can feel the steering more with the stiffer tyre, like you can do with a 2wd front tyre say. Grip is rarely an issue on astro so if there is any loss of sidebite I don't really mind.

Do any of you ever run the schumacher silver minispikes? If so, on what surface and which insert? I tried them on a cut up dusty grass track with a softish insert and they felt like they moved around too much to give good grip and side bite. Maybe a chubby firm insert would make the difference?

another vote for Mr O here, as mentioned above

They are good if your wanting a little extra forwards drive from the tire, which the softer middle will give, while the standard outer edges help to reduce the tire rolling under the wheel. I have used them in ballistics on really wet tracks.


Yep, I have run silver round coastals grass/dusty track in the wet and dry where I thought they were dreadfull. They seem best on wet / damp astro, but am not sure they would work at Boughton as the pile is quite long. definitely need to use the chubby inserts with them too.

Not just me that doesn't rate silvers then:) Might have worked 20 years ago when we had no power or batteries:woot:
Seems Mr O firms on the front and mediums on rear is the way to go generally, maybe goto duals when in slippy conditions.
I hope to run these at coastal next month, boughton's a bit far for me and I suck on astro:blush:

I've seen that, yes, but what surface would they work on, do you think? My guess is a smooth surface, like short astro or hard earth.

its going to vary on venue.
I think at eden park, greens are best when its slightly damp and actually raining, while silvers are better for after the rain when its a little more slippy.

But its going to change depending on the type of astro etc too.

Personally i just use schuey greens, or balistic greens if its really wet

I heard from someone (can't remember who lol) that the silvers were made to be a control tyre for a particular race series in europe somewhere...and are a compound that was supposed to be a middle ground for both dirt and astro (I think) based tracks...so they are a bit of a compromise for both surfaces and not any competition for the traditional compounds on our UK grass/astro tracks!

I guess Schumacher have been trying to see if they could find a use for them somewhere now they can make them or have stocks, but not sure they are really much use from what little I've heard!
