Hi, just ordered a gear diff for my 4.0

What do you guys recommend as a good starting point for oil?

Running on carpet med/high grip generally tight technical tracks with bare wood ramps and a little exposed sports hall floor.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated as its not a 2 minute job to swap out.

3000wt is a good starting point for carpet.

As Toby says,3000wt is good. I was surprised when I put it in as its seemed really thin when turning the diff in the car but it was fine on high grip EOS carpet.

For what it’s worth I was on eos carpet at the weekend with 15k in the diff and the car would not rotate enough. I defo plan to try 3k next time.

3K is a good starting point. Was running that for quite a while, but found when front tyres were new, the car would over rotate a little to much. Have now gone upto 7K both indoors and out, and the back end just feels a little more stable for me, can push the throttle harder on exit without the fear of it letting go. I also found 7K to be a bit safer outdoors on Astro at Coventry Model Car Club once the sand had come up slightly. If I wanted a touch more steering, I’d drop down to 5K

Does anyone know if the rear camber block for the 4.0 will fit the 3.0 or if there is an aftermarket alternative other than the schelle?

Yes the new camber block will fit the old car.

Quick update

I ran the car on friday night with 5k oil in the gear diff.

Car felt great, similar to the ball diff but with more drive out of the corners, pushed a little more but super safe.

I will try 3k out of curiosity

I tried 5k and defo better rotation than 15k. I had a lot of rear inside wheel lifting on a tight carpet track, but was the only one running a 22 4.0. I laid the front shocks down and that helped. Anyone else seen this? Wondered what other changes I could have tried.

Possibly stiffer rear shocks and a roll bar. On EOS carpet I’m running 30wt oil and AE Blue springs on the back (2.3 lbs), and the thickest roll bar. It was the roll bar which made the biggest difference though! I then could stand the shocks up on the front to gain steering through the corner

Thanks, that was the only thing I didn’t try! Changed front shock springs, front roll bar etc. I shall try that for next time :)

Hi there, I switch to a TLR 22 4.0 last June when the kits arrived in the UK. I have been registered on here for a while but until now never been able to get my account activated. Great to finally be on access this site and post.

I race at Colchester (grass track) and Coastal (bumpy astro) and am slowly getting my car set up with the help from Ellis Stafford (big E), George (No.46) and John Brown (jcb)and looking to up my game and experience this year and enter a few EOE Regional rounds.

Very pleased with the TLR so far, although the last 6 months have very much been a learning curve - well pestering George :thumbsup:.

So are there any carpet speedsecrets/ setups from BigE and the others?
So far I'm one of a few TLR drivers here in Germany and unfortunately there is not a lot info.
I realy love the car so far. I'm running the manual carpet setup minus the sway bars, flipped the bell cranks and Run Yokomo Racing Performer springs black in Front and orange in the rear.
Had two 3rd, a 5th and a 6th place so far out of about 20 starters in the 13.5 blinky class.

Ellis is running Carisma now. I run mine kit set up for carpet with 3000wt in the gear gift and it’s spot on. I’m usually in or around the top 10 of about 50 drivers and that’s in Mod.

I've been running the 22 4.0 since September and have tried a few 'team setups' but I haven't got the feeling from the car that I wanted.
So I decided to try the long VLA and tune the setup to suit.
For me, it's totally changed the car,
it now jumps more level 'the rear doesn't kick up' both off jumps and over bumps. This is my current setup and for me the car has been great running this.

I ran long VLA at Boughton Raceway last year and found it to be good where you have a a lot of medium to high speed corners.

Also ran flipped bellcranks and the TLR234007 spindles from the 22 2.0, a well worth while modification which helps to make the steering feel very smooth and consistent on high bite surfaces.
